My graphic card is NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500. The drivers are instaled and now I'm downloading the latest drivers.

I'm assuming your running Windows.

Before installing the latest drivers, uninstall the old ones and make sure there is no trace of them. Many of problems under windows when updating the drivers & not removing the old ones properly.

If you have an old/crappy CPU or motherboard you might have to downgrade the drivers instead. I once had to run something like 78.01 to get OpenGL support in Windows on my old computer.

I got the same error when I was setting up a custom resolution for my laptop. I got the: "could not load OpenGL subsystem" error when OpenArena was attempting to create a display mode my system didn't support.

Try this:

  • Go to: C:\Users\PROFILE\AppData\Roaming\OpenArena\baseoa
Note: (Path will vary depending on the OS)
  • Edit: q3config.cfg
  • Verify: That the values of seta r_customwidth and seta r_customheight are valid for your display adapter.
