Question: Do you like them? If you were to change them, would the supplied "sniparail" do the job for you?  (Voting closed: April 20, 2008, 07:35:21 AM)
Yes, I like the current crosshairs, wouldn't change a thing. - 5 (35.7%)
I'd like some different crosshairs, but I want them to be fancy. Not minimalist, like this "sniparail". - 1 (7.1%)
I like "sniparail". It looks like an "O" and an "A" put together. - 6 (42.9%)
Holy shit! this just upped my accuracy like 20%! - 2 (14.3%)

Submit your votes and maybe fromhell will become interested.
I want this to become part of the game because I want to use it in multiplayer, and I'd like to see how many people actually care about this small a part.
BTW, I made this crosshairs, so they are GPL, you can use them as you like.

I don't get how this can improve your accuracy.

i voted the first option, since the round one is good for me, but i don't see a reason for not including this one too. ;-)

The idea is ancient, dating back to HL:CS if I remember correctly. This shape, the hollow angle and the helm, are used for headshot placement with the CS gurus. There is no one definitive graphic for achieving that though. So I made one.
This works because the whole construct is easy to see, the hollow angle suggests exactly where you should place the cursor, and the helm encapsulates your target if placed properly.
Long time players might agree with me on this. Some might not, though.
But don't just diss it, give it 10 minutes in-game, it just might grow on you.

Oh, and it resembles the OpenArena logo/acronym/whatever. Purely by chance.

Well, there are no hitpoints in Quake, but it's a nice graphic anyway.

I think is a great graphic! I really like the clean and simple design.

Not to say that the default crosshairs aren't good enough. Personally I like a large round crosshair so I can aim without "aiming."

That's what this one does, give it a spin and you'll see it is as good for snapshots as it is for keeping target.

by the way, if anyone isn't sure what to do with sniparail.pk3.zip, don't unzip it, just rename it to sniparail.pk3 and drop it into baseoa.

Thanx. I wonder if there's a way to force it onto my game's installation. Like, in such a way that no matter what the mod is I still have my cursor. (Because I'm yet to buy a proper mouse, and until then this affects my gameplay greatly).

well, you can copy it into each mod folder. on linux go into /home/goddll/.openarena and you'll see a bunch of folders with name like defrag, ufreeze or whatever mods you play. just copy your pk3 into each of those. not sure where to go in windows though.

the . works very well, as it takes up little space on the screen

Mac OS X here. That is sorta BSD UNIX. So I know my way around.
As for all the mod's folders... This could work, thanks. I'll report back on whether it does or not.

That would actually be pretty nice, but I don't know if it's already possible or not, and if not – whether it will be worth the programming investment to achieve. fromhell?

Either there isn't enough of us browsing the forms, or people do not care enough to vote.
That case I call this sad and thread closed.
Thank you everybody who invested time in checking this out.
