Extract the .zip

And you should get a resulting .pk3 from it called pak7-patch.pk3

Place that into your baseoa directory.

So for example if the games is located in your home directory it would be: /home/username/openarena-0.7.0/baseoa

Put the pak7-patch.pk3 file into the /usr/share/games/openarena/baseoa directory.

Have you got openarena version 0.6.0 or 0.7.0 ? If you have 0.6, the patch isn't enough.
Just read the post-its about Invalid Folders, you may have to get the latest version yourself. And search on this board before asking for how-to install patches.

Setups are different on different systems but we assume that your Open Arena installation is in /home/games/openarena
You would then want the following files in your /home/games/openarena/baseoa directory

pak0.pk3
pak1-maps.pk3
pak2-players.pk3
pak2-players-mature.pk3
pak3-music.pk3
pak4-textures.pk3
pak5-TA.pk3
pak6-misc.pk3
pak7-patch.pk3

I am not sure, but the last time I checked it was still the 0.6.0 version in Ubuntu repository, maybe that has been updated by now though. If not, then do a manual download of precompiled binaries or compile it from source yourself for best results.

Just be aware that when you download the files (in this case the patch) it is either a .rar or a .zip file depending on the source you get it from. On that note, a .pk3 file is basically a zip-file, only with a different extension so don't make the mistake of unzipping the contents of the .pk3 file, only extract the .zip/.rar.

But as said previously in this thread (and in this sticky) , all you need is 0.7.0 and the 0.7.1 patch then you're good to go..

i manged to get it to work by copying the 7.1  .pk3s to the ver 6 folder and deleting the ver 6 .pk3s
Thank you all very much for all of your help, it was invaluable.

SETUP -> PLAYER

W1zard is right, the version in Ubuntu 7.10 is still 0.6.0, but I assume the executable did not change as it works fine for me with the 0.7.1 pk3 files (which I copied from my Windows partition).
