Hi guys,

I was playing Open arena 0.7.7 without any problems, but when I downloaded 0.8 version, I had a problem: my sensitivity was very slow. Even before playing the game, in the main menu the mouse is veeeery slow, and when I launch a server, if my sensitivity is "5", it's incredibily slow. If I want to play I have to change my sensitivity to "25", but it's not satisfying because it's not smooth at all. When I try to activate the "smooth mouse" option it's worst, so I don't know what to do!

I tried to uninstall/install the 0.8 version, but it didn't change anything, furthermore when I reinstalled the game and launched it, all the options (controls, nickname, etc...) were already set. So if anyone has an idea, please tell me, I can't play with this problem!

Regards Wink

Are you on Windows or Linux?  Can you tell us what typing in_mouse in the console says?

Are you changing sensitivity in-game or outside?

Hi, and thanks for your answer,

I'm on Windows vista. When I type \in_mouse in the console, the value is "1", and I change the sensitivity in the main menu or while I'm playing, and it's the same problem!

Thank you for advance! Smiley

For me, the mouse would act funny because of graphics settings. I think it was fixed when I made "texture quality" default, instead of 16 or 32 bit. Try setting other things to "default".

Not sure if we have anyone using Vista.  Check out Sharpflame's post first.

Perhaps try \in_mouse "0" or in_mouse "-1"?  (I believe this will require restarting OA.)

If not, use the binary in serverfixFor080.zip and try that again (1, 0, and -1).  (-1 probably only works with this binary, and not stock (see sticky thread in Development forum).)

As an extreme last resort... perhaps any of the alternative clients (no versions are compiled for Windows just yet).

Ok, tx a lot guys, it works great now: I tried "in_mouse -1" and changed my graphics to 1280*800 and it works pretty well now! Smiley

Just to say I had a similar problem while using Windows XP, mouse sucked the same way (slow and weird accel), but I didn't investigate (didnt try in_mouse -1 and so on).
I wonder if using 9th august (instead of 6th august) builds help.

@peanuts, did you install some special fix or are you only using the .zip listed on the "files" section of openarena.ws ?
If not, you may give it a try.

I installed open arena by using the .zip on the files section, and yes it was on openarena.ws so don't know what to do... I still have the problem and I don't find any solution Sad Heeeeelp !

I have no idea if it will work, but get this zip : http://download.tuxfamily.org/openarena/rel/080/oa080-serverfix.zip
Unzip it, and overwrite .exe in your OA installation directory.
Then try again with in_mouse -1 ... or various settings Cheesy

If you still have keyboard support, you can also try calling an \in_restart in the console (also useful if you want to compare "-1" and "1," to convince yourself you're not going mad Smiley).  (Calling this may be necessary if switching ingame.)

Also, in_mouse "0" might not do what you expect it to do (i.e. disabling entirely).

Since you say you reformatted, do you have the manufacturer's drivers for your hardware (i.e. not the ones already included in Vista)?  (Sorry, has to be asked.)

I tried both with the new drivers or with the standard drivers and it's still the same problem. Don't know what to do: in_mouse doesn't change anything, and I can't play with this sentivity...

inmouse -1 will not have any effect if you use the standard Open Arena 0.8.0 binaries. You will need the serverfix ones: http://brie.ostenfeld.dk/~poul19/public_files/oa/dev080/serverfixFor080.zip

Or you can copy the old SDL.dll from an 0.7.7 installation. It does not support 'directx' and will force the old input method.

Tx a lot, it works great now! But there's still a problem: I can't set up the brightness, and it's very dark! When I want to increase brightness I can't because the scroll bar is in grey, does someone know something to fix this?

You can also increase it incrementally (to values like 1.3 or 1.6 etc) instead of upping it by a whole unit.
In testing different values, you might find an even more satisfying level.  Just don't put it up too high Smiley
