Hello

i played ver 0.7 on my windows 2000 machine. Everything worked well. Now i have upgraded to this "exciting" new version, and my mouse sucks, even with inmouse 0 or 1. Sometimes when i chance inmouse, i cant move my mouse pointer anymore.

Ok, next problem. If i click multiplayer and search servers, it will find 47 servers, but dont displays them. Then i checked the forum, and i downloaded oa080-serverfix but no changes.

Can u please make the next release 0.9 with the old mouse and the old ip4 or whatever ? I mean this really sucks :/

Whatelse can i do to display the servers ?

I don't know why it wouldn't show the servers, but detects them. At first, I thought it might be related to this: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2266.0
But now I'm not too sure (because it's not saying "no response from master server").
Can you play if you click "specify" and enter the server address manually?

Can you try in_mouse "-1" with the serverfix client?

i get strange things happening like I put sens at 3 then restart the game and it feels default although sens still shows 3. I feel like I kill players and dont hit them, I'm not complaining with that too much.

i can connect via the console. But if i do a search, it says 46 servers found for 2 seconds, and then 0 servers found.

Inmouse default is -1, i tryed 1 and 0. The controll is like i have drunk 7 beer. I cant play with that Sad. Cant u make an windows version with the old 0.7 controll ?

I have noticed, the new Prox. mines suck too. Speed is useless now. You mut play an engineer to destroy this fucking mines before attacking. Thx god, the respawn rate is 2 seconds, so u nearly have no chance to escape.

Why do u destroy a good gameplay with new patches ? Why dont u make a voting about how many ppls think 0.8 is good or not ? I accept new things, but i think :

- Bad mouse controll (0.7 was even better)
- Prox. mines.
- These new sounds. I cant hear if i have hit any1 with rail or not.
- Find server under multiplayer wont work.
- More local lag ? It feels like my rocket comes a second later out of the launcher. The attaking system feels wired.

Sorry, but 0.8 isnt really good :/

It's not about 0.8.0, its about your PC and how you are using it.

My mouse control is perfect, Prox mines are cool and you destroy them with one rocket, multyplayer with serverfix work just fine, and i have no local lag. Only some sounds were better, but i prefer 0.8.0 than 0.7.7.

in_mouse -1 doesn't work. If I try in_restart on 0.7.1 it says the input has been restarted but there is nothing reported if I do the same thing on 0.8.0.

Version 0.7.1 works perfectly.

At least with 0.8.0 it's consistant so no player will have an advantage. If you can truly say it's working then you would have had to compare the exact same  basic game on two versions. I did. Did anyone else?

Please stay on topic or stfu.
Stay on IRC where you belong. Other people are looking at the issue and 'helping', why not go vomit on them? Is it because they aren't 'noobs' in your pathetic mind?

0.8.0 maybe fit for your standards but it's sub-standard for most decent players.

Just make me want to shout out very loud just how good 0.7.1 is right now, and it sure is. You are a nothing but a liability and damaging to the OA community. If anyone is guilty of pretending to be fromhell, it's you. But you don't quite cut it. I ask you again, please be polite and treat members here with respect.

For a start, I have been on the receiving end of complaints regarding the mouse.

As it happens, even admins are playing other games, they notice it sucks too. I spent alot of time doing a comparison and maybe I could prove the other people wrong. I wasn't even expecting to notice a difference myself, but I did. The difference is quite notable to be honest.

Like many others, i'm sick to the teeth of seeing these posts bashing others simply because they are playing another version. Many don't bother to visit here anymore and I was just about to be one of them, until something cheered me up so I'll hang around a little bit Cheesy  New members/players arrive and highlight the obvious issues, they always will, because it really does suck!

This is not the answer..

The main problem arises with Windows O/S & SDL. There seems to be a problem with using SDL mouse Input for Windows. The problem itself isn't entirely a OpenArena problem but more of a ioquake3/SDL problem.

There is very few Programmers on the OA forum & the few that know quake 3 code respectably well, are trying to resolve other issues.

I suggest taking a look at the ioquake3 website & try and see if there has been any updates on mouse issues. Also posting your spec to them & your problem may help them resolve it for you.

Please also note that unlike Linux where updates are consistent across the board. Windows does not, this meaning, you have computers running from Win98 > Vista, and each O/S is slightly different. Meaning a fix on one version of Windows doesn't mean it resolves all Window versions. Making it difficult to fix & resolve issues.

Also by saying something 'sucks' & not give a reason, places many people on a defensive stance. Instead of saying that it just 'sucks', why not suggest ways on how to improve it? The game has not reached the important 1.0.0 mark yet & so many things will change & improve, some to peoples liking & others not so much. With the communities support problems will get resolved.

Oh, I see, I'm using a Mac, so I didn't notice.
My friends on Windows don't seem to notice any mouse suckage though. (and I've played on their computers)
Maybe it's just me.

it seems differ from different windows versions and/or hardware.

0.7.6 and 0.7.7 was totally unplayable for me. whereas 0.7.1 has the same "feeling" as the mouse in quake 3.

0.8.0 is close to that 0.7.1 feel, for me - on my rig. as i see it this "mouse-bug" is critical to get rid of if we want a version the community can gather around. i'm not going to change OS or "learn to play they way it is now" when i know what i could have (0.7.1 feel).

and also, new players might not think the mouse feel strange if openarena is the first time they play anything based on that engine. i've played quake 3 and rtcw so many hours that it's very important to me that it responds to my movements the way i want it.

oh, well. my post sorta drifted and i don't really know who i'm addressing anymore - but i had to say it again and also i'm a bit bored Tongue

The question is : can you get the exact feeling than quake 3 with the SDL layer ? (or having mouse input as en exception of being the only low-level and non-SDL code).
I think sago already answered on another topic but I didn't get clearly the reasons of why we can't.

Because I think even if the mouse input is satisfying in 0.8.0+, some guys won't be totally satisfied if it's not the exact feeling than Q3.

If it is everlasting is because the problem is still there. I haven't heard yet why the mouse should have ever changed. I'm not talking about upstream, but about OA; what benefits and new features does bring building OA with the screwed mouse ioquake? They must be awesome to counter the negative side effects it brings: from degraded playability to unacceptable mouse problems and community splitting.

I don't play openarena, like I play the classic but I may have a fix for this. Try that ioquake3 with in_mouse 2 and tell me your opinions. To make it work with openarena you may try to rename baseoa to baseq3 (don't know if that works, never tried it.). You must restart quake after you set that cvar, otherwise it won't work. If you still have trouble look in the console and see if "Enabeling DirectInput mouse hack" appears.

Hello

i played ver 0.7 on my windows 2000 machine. Everything worked well. Now i have upgraded to this "exciting" new version, and my mouse sucks, even with inmouse 0 or 1. Sometimes when i chance inmouse, i cant move my mouse pointer anymore.

Can u please make the next release 0.9 with the old mouse and the old ip4 or whatever ? I mean this really sucks :/

Whatelse can i do to display the servers ?

Stupid or Crappy ? things in the new version :

- These new sounds. I cant hear if i have hit any1 with rail or not.
- Find server under multiplayer windows 2000/ 98 wont work

Why do u chance things, which are working optimal ? Why did you have changed the sounds ?

I have exactly the same problems with 0.8 version
Gotten no good help here.
Its not your download by the way. Ive uninstalled the and redownloaded the 0.8 version 3 times now and no changes at all.
Ingame serverbrowser still doesnt not work.
If you get your hands on a fix for this gemy, please pm me about it.

Works for me too, but... can we expect a "patched" Win95/98/Me/2K binary to be compiled for each future release of OA?

i see a pattern to the mouse problems for me with 0.8.0.  its when i am holding a keyboard key the mouse seems to get very steppy and impossible to track others with.
