Being a huge open source geek and musician I saw that OpenArena was missing some game music.  After getting my ass handed to me royally online, I decided to try my chops at some melodies.

http://arthursucks.googlepages.com/OA_track01_finished.ogg

This is what I came up with.  I'm not sure if this is the kind of sound you want for the game.  I figured something simple that doesn't get in the way of the game play might be best.  I currently use Ubuntu Studio for my music and video work.  This song was programed in LMMS and then mastered in Ardour.  I have the "source" files if anyone would like to see them.

I'd love to help, if I could.

I think the track is pretty close to perfectly fitting. Nicely dark.

A little more diversity (the beats are too predictable all the time I think)

Anyways: If you want the possibility of inclusion in the project to exist, you will have to release the sources and the track under the GPLv2 (or: "GPLv2 or any later version")

I would like to hear more tracks from you because as I already said, I find it quite fitting.

I believe that only fromhell is able to decide whether or not the track gets included or not.

This one might be a good one for the menu?

Have you tried listening to how it sounds ingame?

(Short version, if you haven't already done this: Zip appropriate files, rename to .pk3, place in openarena-0.8.0/baseoa, and call \music "filename.ogg" in the console.)

Do you notice anything a little too far ahead of the beat, about a minute in?

Really could work for the baseoa or missionpack menu.  See what else develops...

I believe all the samples that come stock with LMMS are included under the GPL.  I made sure to only use the stock samples.
I'm gonna give the music a test to see how it feels in game.  I was wondering how to do that!  Smiley

Thanks!

The project file also is source, could you post it? and if possible, find out if the samples are gpl or not.

Okay. For some reason fromhell never explains it, but apparently you have to submit your stuff to this thread if you want it included.

My assumption is:

You will have to find out the license of all the files and write this info in some text file with your release.

You will have to include all sources: wav files and the project file of the software you used.

Then post it to the svn commits thread as posted above..

PS: I hope that's okay for you. write here if you want help with anything.

Does anyone know if BSD licensed samples are allowed?  I want to use the package hydrogen-drumkits.  It's not GPL but BSD.  If I'm not mistaken that's compatible right?

Modified BSD, yes. Just BSD, no.
