Hi,

I have been doing Quake3 and UT mapping for a couple of years. I have remade (implemented starting from scratch) some Quake1 and UT maps for Quake3. These maps could be used in OA after a simple (but tedious) re-texturing. I am willing to do this, but first I would like to know the 'official' position of the OA development team on the inclusion of such maps.

As I stated above, the maps are complete remakes (not BSPC converted crap). However, I had not asked the original map authors to give permission for the conversions. Are such maps acceptable for inclusion in OA? I am willing to release my versions under the GPL or any other license acceptable for OA.

The list of converted maps:

ultrav (Q1, available on LvL as 'q3_ultrav')
elkdm2 (Q1, available on LvL as 'q3_elkdm2')
Curse][ (UT)
Bloodflowers (UT)

BTW, are the official maps included in the PK3s under the GPL? If yes,  the corresponding MAP files (i.e. the 'source code') or a download link to them should be in the OA package. If not GPLed, then what kind of license do they have?

There are already many remakes in Open Arena (created from scratch), so that is not a problem.

The source for included maps are here:

Depends. If it's very accurate, then that could be a problem of plagiarism.
You should also ask the original authors too.

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.
