Hello all. Smiley

I was very bored one day and came up with this crack pot but quite cool idea of rotating the game type on my Open Arena Server.

Is it possible? And if so how.

I know you can rotate maps in the server.cfg file, but what about gametypes aswell?

Say for example, it starts on aggressor with a deathmatch, once that game is over it then moves on to say oabases2 with Capture the flag. and then another map with last man standing and so on.

that would make a very cool server.

Maybe even random selection but thats bound to be more complicated.

Any thoughts?

(ps i did try adding the g_gametype command in line with the one that sets the map and it didn't work but i might of done it wrong)

Of course that what you ask is possible.
You should add set g_gametype N between the map and the nextmap vstr, something like this:

seta ctfm1 "set g_gametype 0; map aggressor; wait; set nextmap vstr ctfm2"
seta ctfm2 "set g_gametype 4; map ps37ctf; wait; set nextmap vstr ctfm3"

And so on...

Remember game numbers:
0 - DM
1 - Tourney
3 - Team
4 - CTF
5 - 1FCTF
6 - Overload
7 - Harvester
8 - Elimination
9 - eCTF
10- LMS
11- DD
12- DOM

Sometimes gametype resets can be awkward so you might need to arse around with it.. perhaps do a map_restart or something? It's wouldnt be a good idea to mix gametypes though.. since players might not like a certain gametype. If you wanted gametype and votable stuff it might be worth having a look at x-battle mod. It has osp, cpm, uft, unlagged 2.01 all in a single mod.

Cool!
Cheers Neon_Knight for the reply. Tongue i didn't have the semi colon separating the commands.
And i can see your point missbehaving but there are also some people who like to have the game type changed for them, its a 50/50 preference really. some people like to play just one game type and others like to just sit there and play whatever the game throws at them,

I personally like a bit of both having played halo2 and 3 over the past few years im used to the concept of being given a random game type and map it adds a sense of adventure and challenge to the gameing experience.
its not everybody's cup of tea but thats the beauty of choice which theres a smug amount of in the online server list. Wink

I'm one of those players.
I think changing the gametype is a great idea and I don't know why more servers don't do it. I also like a ton of maps in the rotation. Randomness is brilliant.

I know this is a really old thread now, but i managed to achieve a truly random "Suffle mode" by means of externals cripting, http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=4929.0

I think the worst servers are those who just have one map and one mode only 24/7. Generally those servers only have either 1on1, FFA or CTF and as a map either aggressor, ps37ctf or oasago2.

People say they don't like the new maps introduced with 0.8.8. I find it hard to believe that a map as awesome as pul1duel-oa (for me, the best official OA map EVER) isn't getting much play as those other three maps. I think they didn't really want to play 0.8.alien and so far the arguments I saw against the newer versions are really weak and some of them even reach the surrealism level.

Just going to say this, regarding some of the older posts of this thread. =)
