I think it'd be a very good idea for everyone

if

a
good set of polished unisex animations on a generic bipedal skeleton
with

animations for q1, 2, 3
and be public domain licensed
would encourage creative works not only for OA but Q3, WoP and      Q3

good idea !? problem is i suck at animating and the good artists hate non-copyrights

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

That is the problem leileilol is referring too.

It is a thing that should just be done right just once. Not done wrong multiple times for every project out there.

If a basis animation was in public domain (or a weak copyleft license) all projects could use it and a lot of models (and possible new artists that had previously been held back) would appear everywhere.

What do you have in mind?

Sergei's animations are somewhat generic and look decent to me.

sergei is lefthanded and gpl licensed
starting from scratch for a medium proportioned unspecific skeleton would be better, and no unique bones or anything (i.e. no boobs bone, hair bones, finger bones etc)
test mesh would just be a box guy similar to max's biped

One issue is that WoP can't find an animator for q3 models because all that did do q3 models are often moved-on to a games industry career.

Oh yeah, public domain.

Do you think this something like this would be easy for a professional? If it's generally useful, maybe the various free FPS communities could come together and commission a polished set?

I'd be willing to contribute.

I guess the alternative would be to grow are own expertise.
