OpenArena does support mirrors however they are limited.

For example:

You can't have two mirrors facing each other.
The other thing to take into consideration is, how Quake3 does mirroring, it replicates the entire visible part of the map and renders it. So if you have a seen without a mirror at 2,000tris. With a mirror it would be more like 4,000tris.

Just to take these points into consideration when using mirrors. Smiley

the mirror causes slow computers to drop the frame rate since everything is drawn twice (as kit89 wrote). if i remember correctly the mirror is only used at two places in quake 3 arena: the first room in the dm0 map against crash and a one ctf-space map where the floor is mirrored.

use with caution Smiley

In case you haven't seen it, OA_DM1 has a mirror portal behind the bars.

And don't forget oa_dm5, which has two teleporter-mirrors too.

what about the mirrors which allow you to see other places? are they the ones called teleporter mirrors? there's one map where at blue base you can see red base through mirror, and vice versa, pretty cool.

I would call it "an enemy base camera". Cheesy

In 2009 this caution should be taken with a grain of salt. Mirrors are computationally expensive if you don't have at least 800mhz or a decent post-TNT video card.

I think the correct term is "Portals".
