I downloaded openarena version 0.8.1 for vista home premium, and i have the .zip folder, but how exactly do i install it onto my computer (what file do i go on, what do i click, etc.)

yes..OA is a portable game. Just right click on it , Extract that file and run openarena.exe

I would play the single player a bit before playing Multiplayer mode. Also, in your settings, adjust your network setting to appropiate level..(if you have DSL, choose Cable/DSL). There are other adjustments you can do. Check out the wiki section on this site to find them.
