Has Nintendo copyrighted even the "likeness" to the goomba character? Does anyone know?

I've got an itch to develop a "goomba" award prototype (like if you land on somebody, it kills them)....and have one of those little buggers show up on screen as a medal...

You wouldn't want to offend Nintendo. They even try to patent gameplay concepts, like 'insanity'.

I think a 'spring' would be a neutral image instead, since springs BOUNCE! AND YOU SPRINGED ON HIM or maybe an anvil.
