You don't. You make .map into .bsp. The map-files for the official openarena maps are located in svn: http://openarena.ws/svn/source/assets/maps/

You can find other map-files around this forum.

Small note: Some of the map files on svn are made with QuArK and cannot be opened by NetRadiant.

I have used GtkRadiant 1.4 that can open QuArK maps and saves in the new format.

Maybe the relevant map files in oas repository (basesx...) could be converted to one format?

NetRadiant can read them, but you need to change a setting somewhere for the different format, let's see.... It is in preferences and is called Settings / Brush / Use alternative texture projection.

Unfortunately NetRadiant cannot convert between the formats (changing that setting after loading the map does NOT work).

I'd say the trick is not to dabble in things (especially many things at once). Pick the one thing you'd like to do and really study it.  Wink

Start with the basics and work your way up. Realistically, it could be a few months or more before you're ready to contribute something, who knows.

I taught myself spreadsheets just by reading all the help files. It didn't happen overnight. Now I can make sense of functions like this:
Code:
=IF(K424=1;0;IF(AND(Q448="Yes";M424<Q449);$Stats.$L$33-IF(E424<H424;FLOOR((($Stats.$L$33*(100-M424))/100);2;1);CEILING((($Stats.$L$33*M424)/100);2;1));IF(E424<H424;FLOOR((($Stats.$L$33*(100-M424))/100);2;1);CEILING((($Stats.$L$33*M424)/100);2;1))))

It might look confusing, but things that look confusing at first can sometimes be a lot simpler than you think.

A first attempt could be to pik 1 q3 texture and make a redo from scratch with a painting program.
Textures are one of the most missing things in oa i guess...
