How could I plasma climb in OA without melting myself with the plasma gun?
And how could I do it properly?
I watched the Quake Live video about plasma climbing, but Quake Live and Open Arena are two different games.

If you want to make some tries without melting yourself, you could make them in DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Elimination]Elimination mode, with \elimination_selfdamage 0. This way, you will not hurt yourself and, with \elimination_plasmagun 999 (default is 200), have infinite ammo. When you will be able to do good plasmaclimbs, you could try it in "standard" modes, hurting yourself.

If you don't want to use Elimination mode (or g_elimination option), you could also load a map with "\devmap mapname" command, then \god and \give all.

I suggest to you to try also grenade-plasmaclimbing... it's nice! Smiley

best thing is to watch this:
http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid=485602530153341227#
or download it here: http://www.quakeunity.com/file=2170

it is a rather complete (but a bit dull) n00bs guide to tricking in oa / q3 . it uses the defrag mod (there are quite some defrag servers for oa online) so you have some optical help while tricking or doing speedruns.

so I'd advice you to watch the vid, then go to some of the online defrag -oa server, and ask for help. you will most liekly find some helpfull defraggers, giving you a hand Smiley

have fun tricking

I was able to sometimes get a good plasmaclimb, but not always.
I'll check the OA Defrag servers.

But is it using Defrag's V3Q or CPM physics?

watch it. or if you need vq3/cpm specific help, plz open a new thread.

this thread is about plasma climbing, and the common basics are very well explained in the video.

some extra help for plasmaclimbing: in defrag you can add "info items" (for some basic help on defrag and defrag console commands > click here <  )
Code:
df_chs1_draw 1 // To active the Crosshair Status function
df_chs1_info1 46 // activates angles.
when plasma climbing directly upwards, the  left number should be between 68 and 71, as seen in these screen shots:

It's all about the angle. Experiment with different angles.

Walk up to a wall and look down, so you are aiming just above the line where the floor and wall meet. Walk into the wall and keep pressing forward. Jump and press fire at the same time and keep them pressed. That's it.

Move left and right by tapping (not holding) left or right quickly.

Changing direction and the like are all about angles.

I can't download anything now, I'm in a non-wifi area.
I'll try the tactics you guys suggested.
