oh so now we're talking about cakes again? RMF.. as you probably fail to know, long before i started posting on this board I managed to gather up a pretty large fan base of haters. these ppl mainly consists of GoD-members who like to post threads about me in their own private forum and/or bash/votekick me for nothing as soon i join a server.. now if you would actually read my posts instead of making weak-cake-remarks then you would realize the ammount of cake doesnt add up with my posts.. meaning someone made a request to all his clanmates to come in here and vote..

for me this is all in good fun but at the same time it shows how obsolete these voting-systems are.. especially on smaller boards like this one were its possible for few ppl to control the opinion.. whats even more fkked up about it is the ammount of pplz in here who think its smart to make negative remarks or do negative cake regarding a player just because they "dont like" him.. some way, some how, its kinda cute.. since basically i've pwned them kinda hard online.. (and im not even that good, just having fun) if it was the other way around they woudnt bother with it or even remember me..

so we're actually dealing with broken egos here.. be careful =)

Ehm ... yes , I know ... I was just "activate" by the key word " DDoS " not really by his entire talk ....

That patch was also proposed on ioquake3 Bugzilla , so I just only want to give the knowledge of it to the OA forum

@abused, i don't think anyone got a team together to lower your cakes, also because you need a minimal postcount to change the cakecount...

Anyway i'm not going to discuss this further, I've made my statement and that's all i wanted to say ^^

first of all.. my cakes being on the lower side of course isnt the issue here.
it shows the urge from other ppl to devalue.. for reasons only THEY know.

second.. this "talk" is to ensure u actually CAN play when u feel like it..
without being vote-hacked or being "limited" by scared little admihnz..

Well, you made it sound like an issue. Like there was some conspiracy against you. Now you say there is no issue. You contradict yourself. I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about.

Abused... dude, this is only an issue thats gonna last a short time, i dont think there's any such 'conspiracy' against u, you, i,ve been in your possition before, the days when eveyone said i was gay, i got really mad about it and made some nasty posts etc, but a year later im embarrased about them, point is to think it's stupid to think everybodies against u, probally someone making a joke, no big deal, it's just a problem when they get u on a bad day, so dont blow yourself up over this, just people teasing. If they start, DONT SHOW THEM THAT UR AFFECTED and they'll (maybe) stop.

@abused, personally I dont like trash talk period... That doesnt make a good game to me.

chat messages in OA are as close to "talking" as you can get, and people DO read them. When you insult the majority of players, it ruins the fun for them. As admins, the GoD|Clan members try to make the game enjoyable for the majority, so if the majority doesn't like your insults, maybe you should just not type them, and focus more on kicking their asses?

If this were basketball or football, or some other sport, you would get a foul for trash talk. In OpenArena the "foul" is you being kicked. Repeated fouls in sports result in being thrown out of the game, so in OpenArena, you get banned.... and you said "banned again". You didnt learn the first time?

Its a basic right of human beings to be respected, why should GoD pay to host a server where they just get insulted by the players?

@the issue at hand
assrape does do this, ive seen him do it. So, to any OA dev, who can make an official patch, I dont think it hurts anyone to prob do the following

force servers to do a 20sec warmup, to allow for players to connect,
only allow callvotes when the warmup is over

Definitly no force (I hate forced things but love features lol), a sv_novotewarmup variable which defaults to 10secs would be good though (9/10 players connect within about 7secs so 10secs would be enough).

the chat funtion is in the game > < so u should use it. but u dont have to..
being kicked for it is something far more aggressive than the language itself.
lets say someone is "role-playing" and he/she gets kicked for it. acceptable?

ofc it shoudnt be enforced but maybe more like a server setting =)

Yes, why the fuck would you be roleplaying in a public game. Go private if you wanna do stuff others could mind (if you want to sleep and your neighbour is making noise, your neighbour should stop. He is the one annoying you, not the other way around (which is what you don't seem to get at all). He should find some other place or time to do that stuff (assuming it's after 10pm or something)).

And I don't find kicking aggressive, just one /reconnect and you're back in the game. Though hopefully it's clear then that you shouldn't continue whatever you were doing...

This is a naive way of thinking, and even a dangerous one. Politicians use the same reasoning to justify violent measures they take, and people accept because they don't think further either. Annoyances are not a simple problem. Kicking is what I see from admins who have no more arguments in their hand, and who don't even bother to solve the problem by other means, it's like a last recourse solution. Profit the fact this is only a game to think about other means than using authority, what you do here has no or few consequence, I wouldn't say so if you do the same in other situations.

I appreciate in-game chat.  I always try to engage people to lighten up the match.  Not everyone is responsive, but, whatever.

When I join a server, and no one is talking... its like playing with bots... no personality, no humor, no sport...

Unless someone is offensive in their language (vulgarity, threats, cattiness, or mean spirited)... I don't mind.  Role-playing to me just an act of expression... it's okay as long as it stays in-bounds.

"why the f*ck would you be roleplaying in a public game" <- small mind.
there is a lack of tolerance in some of the self proclamed OA-leetsters.
this might just be the hardest game ever for newbs to be allowed into.

I'm pretty sure it is far harder than most other popular games atm, but that's one of the things I most like about OA (and most ioQ3 games+Q3 itself).

I hear yah.  If a player is role-playing during a tournament, I could see a potential issue.  If a player is doing that in a standard FFA (i.e.).... it really shouldn't matter...  There is definitely a social element that is apart of game play that is to be expected.

Roleplaying in a FPS seems weird to me I thought that was something usually done in MMORPGS.

As for this game being hard for newbs to learn I have to say you are correct there but it is also the players wiliness and ability to humble themselves to the learning experience that is also an issue at times

I used to try to help beginners more, but they usually didn't seem willing to learn so I pretty much quit that. Though occasionally when someone seems interrested I do ofcourse.
