like on imageboards but used to be hashed into something to maintain identical consistency, purely by choice.

i'd prefer it over ip-based methods, like a psuedo serial number with no authing

Tripcodes for the forums or for the game?

The advantage for a forum seems to be not requiring people to register (and don't need to store usernames and passwords in a database) -- but wouldn't spambots be a huge problem?
