A day like yesterday, 30/11, but of 1999, the first Unreal Tournament was released. Alongside Quake III Arena, those two games changed the way multiplayer FPS were played.

There's not so much to say about it, though. You have to play it. Smiley

Fun stuff... all your love brought me into UT2004 and it's great when I take off the stress on the projects alongside OA. Tho OA is still the first, but I needed some variety.

I occasionally fire up UT2004 + BallisticWeapons + other things + Portals

I own the game twice.

I uncovered the mystery that is the SGLDrv.dll that came with UT as well.

I really liked and played a lot of UT99. But after playing more and more of Q3/OA every other FPS seemed very slow Smiley

I still play some UT2004 with bots.

But also some bad news:
Not just Doom and Doom 2, also Quake had left the german index:
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Quake-ist-nicht-mehr-jugendgefaehrdend-1387514.html
(article is in german - use google if you like).

Now you are able to buy this games in my neat censorship country XD
ps: wolf is still @ index because of the nazi theme which is forbidden here.

Sure - like q3 iirc (but i don´t care about Cheesy ).
And q4 is just playable in a special german version rated 16+ which is not compatible with the whole other versions in the world (multiplayer ofc) XD

many shooters are indexed here. Last indexed game was dead island afaik...
As a funny side note: in Half-Life you could kill the scientists. in the german version they just sit down and whine if you shoot @ them.
And TFC has to be played against robots instead of soldiers Grin
Was a shitty peace of work to get steam to work with my uncut versions from the UK (because Valve removed the original one and installed the german version on my account - this is the reason why i usualy do not use or trust steam, itunes and all this other fine peaces of software). Not fixed is HL2 EP2 till now: my enemies just disappear if i kill them like scotty had beamed them away. no blood, no splatter, no decals Sad

German L4D2 is somewhat weird. They get Counter-Strike weaopns.

Quake was indexed for human brutality (i.e. grunts, enforcers, knights, hellknights, and deathmatch).

Hard Reset is one recent FPS that probably is made for Germany anyway, like some sort of Probotector approach. You fight only robots, and the bloody human mess isn't your action but scripted events on NPCs you can't even kill.

I almost wanted to do a watergun OA variation years ago, but tracelinehitscan water attacks don't look convincingly watery... It would have compromised violence for skimpiness

I've forgot to mention that UT is also one lf the FPS with the most awesome soundtrack ever. Here be proof:

And, of course, even the intro and menu songs are pretty memorable:

I wish OA someday gets a soundtrack THIS awesome.

/me plans to get original UT99 to play through January... or at least grab that OST.

Tho UT2004's ONS05 with that marching-like rhythm is still my favourite.

Source isn't the only reason why i'm encouraging a tracker format standard for OA for years. Wink
if i could i'd integrate dumb with kode54's fixes

I almost forgot that the entirety of Unreal/UT's soundtrack was done in trackers.

modarchive has public domain music. looking through it to see if any of it is any good.

Considering this song is there, i'd take it with a grain of salt.

What we should really do is to remix the current OA songs, but there's a problem with it... there're only the samples, and no the .it files. :S

I wanna see apt-get's most offensive games list

I know repositories aren't really called 'apt-get''s but apt-get can be considered a name of a savior

Here it's still 21:40. Tongue

To think that I wouldn't be here doing maps if it wasn't for this game...
