I thought that was a nice thing to do, and it also reminds me to maybe make a new design for the site for the coming reboot.

Yay! Awesome, indeed.

Though it's been a long time since a map is uploaded into MR (I still have some into the queue), and LvL shows levels which are compatible with OA, not levels made specifically for OA.

Uploading "lost" OA maps to tuxfamily might be a good thing, though. Another mirror in case more levels are submitted into MR.

Now that I think of it... how much feasible and convenient is the idea of hosting completely gplv2-compliant maps/mods on the official site?

May be interesting, but who would guarantee for actual GPL compliance of each third-party package?

Well, maps which only uses official assets (such as Moixie's maps) must include .map file and the license file.
For others, some are easier to tell and some others not.
