it is our deepest pleasure to introduce hightime deathmatch servers, open to all, dedicated to fragging your friends 24/7  punched

hightime vanilla ffa is inspired by ciggaweed dm
hightime vanilla gib is a throwback to the times of yore, when picard roamed the underworld and fought for vadrigar's amusement.

features include:

Smiley vanilla 0.8.8 game servers with default built-in assets only and default setings wherever appropriate
Cheesy 8 gib maps and 25+ ffa maps in rotation, handpicked for your maximum enjoyment
mad served from a dedicated 2-core blade server on pennsylvania backbone, with a guaranteed 100 mpbs up/downlink for that buttery smooth feeling
grouch to stave off the worst abuses of democracy, voting is disabled, but the management is open to establishing a democratic government with severely limited powers
shifty server logs are kept for debugging purposes only and are purged at 4:20 every day; the management pledges to continue this policy, and that no server log will ever be shared or published, to the extent that the law allows
Evil strict freedom-of-expression policy, whereas no one will ever be banned for things they say in chat or the way they play the game
alien management bent on doing the absolute possible minimum to just keep the servers running and enjoyable for all

love you all  Kiss

Hey hey hey!

Thanks for checking us out, everyone, and thanks for excellent suggestions, like disabling bot chatter and enabling hitscan delag1. We hope you come back for more fragging  punched

On a technical side, the ffa server crashed twice so far with signal 11, and both times on dm1 map, so we may have to replace this map (however fun it is) with something less buggy. A fan of death, may be?  topsy

while we are still keeping an eye on dm1 and this maplist is by no means final (does it ever have to be?), we decided to go ahead and add more maps across the board:

gib (12) am_galmevish2 + am_spacecont + ce1m7 + czest1tourney + oa_rpg3dm2 + oa_shine + oa_shouse + pul1duel-oa + wrackdm17 + oa_ctf4ish + oasago2 + ps37ctf2

ffa (37) all ffa-based maps + am_thornish + ctf_gate1 + mlctf1beta + oa_ctf4ish + oasago2 + ps37ctf2

happy fragging  ccool

Cheesy quick ffa update: added nextmap vote option for skipping the current map; also, removing dm1 from rotation did not make signal 11 go away... instead, it started happening on czest1tourney, so we put dm1 back in. it would be REALLY nice if anyone could point us in the right direction here topsy

long time no see, everyone Smiley

we are immensely exited to announce an upcoming hardware update. just around march 26 we will be moving hightime to a 4-core blade with 6x or so bogomips. there may be some downtime (perhaps up to a few days, but hopefully none at all), and the ip address may change during the transition, but everything else is expected to remain as it is.

on an unrelated note, we've been looking at the rat mod, and liking it a lot. what we find compelling is the combination of fully delagged weapons (saw, rockets, grenades, plasma) and server-side bright-shells, which make all models extremely visible and 90% less pornographic, by surrounding them in thin shells glowing with the major color setting. the author of that mod, let's call them rat-boy, indicated that the mod is not ready for release, and no deadline is set. and as much as we would love to run this mod at hightime, there does not seem to be a way. naively installing the downloaded paks provides neither delag nor bright shells, and besides, we would like to run a properly-licensed libre mod anyway.

are there any existing mods to accomplish either of these tasks (server-side full delag & bright models) with minimal overhead?

keywords: unlagged, un-lagged, delagged, de-lagged, bright skins, bright shells, bright models

this has been great, but lately other hightime projects took the lead, and the interest in openarena has waned internally, mainly thanks to the onslaught of xonotic. because of that, we will be shutting down our oa servers this holiday season, so that our resources can be better used elsewhere. we hope this service was enjoyable while it lasted, and we are looking forward to supporting oa3.

please let us know if you have any comments or questions. hightime management frequents minetest and xonotic forums and irc channels, and our web portal is http://tehightime.net

Probably the discord servers are better places than the forum to get in touch with the communities of players nowadays. If you want to ask players' thoughts...

You can find the official one here http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=5287.0
