Any chance that you could do a release of the source and data separately for those who use source based distro's, at the time.

Anyone that wants to do an e-build (or a source package for the non-Gentoo based source-based distros like the sorcery based distros, etc.) could always set up a mirror and just rip the data out of the release .tar.gz giving them the required separation of engine and data.

OA is now 219mb which is well past the goal but that's okay. However it's gotten so big, i'll have to make a neutral win32/linux ZIP release on the release day (no seperate .exe / tar.gz packages) for the sake of upload bandwidth.

The zip would be infozip'd with proper access for the executables (and of course, in addition, contain source code in tar.gz as usual)

If ever I would submit this to digg, it would be just for this.

maybe make a small ver that doesn't have source code and any other none essential. most people wont want the source, although this my go against the GPL

What's wrong with distributing source with the binary?  Most projects that license with the GPL v2 force you to jump through hoops to get source (pointedly looks at Sony).  If you don't want source, then delete it once the file is unzipped.  Also, as the people compiling the binary are probably using teh gweatest Moobunto dying chimpanzee 3.14159265, the majority of GNU/Linux users will end up having to compile their own binary due to a glibc mismatch.  Including the source makes it easy to support all of the GNU/Linux distributions as no one has to search for the source package to compile the binary when things like this happen:
Code:
~/oa$ ./ioquake3.x86_64
Floating point exception

with the distributed binaries.

Is the sound cut of always an x amount of seconds (miliseconds) for example, doesn't matter which one you play, it still ends 500ms to early, or is it a percentage of the length, for example a 4 second one is 400ms shorter and a 5 second one, 500ms shorter? Or is this completely random?

I wrote a ogg wrapper in c# once and I had the problem where it always ended up stopping 1 second to soon. I found that (let's say my sound was 31 seconds) I started counting at 1 and ended at 31, which means it only really played 30 seconds, cutting of the last second.

So, though the sound played from the first second, due to my wrong interpretation of between the actual sound length and internal var for keeping the time played, I had 1 second always cut of.

In any case, just my thoughts on the matter.

Kind regards,

well, it seems that my last post has been cutted by simplemachines...  mad

it always happens when i use the "..." glyph...

anyway, i'm here and i'm trying to build the mac and ppc linux versions in time for the release, but i have a problem: now everything seems working, but i still get the cdkey request at startup.
if this isn't a problem i can send the binaries at any time now.

Have you checked if the changes from the diff file has been applied correctly. In my experience it often goes wrong somewhere. Try applying again and look for any changes that couldn't be applied.

Look if the changes are made to the function: "CL_CDKeyValidate" in "code/client/cl_main.c"
