I love Open Arena and I'm wondering when can the next release come out. I don't need something precise just an estimate. Like that I can start the countdown!

There is a release schedule page or something on wikipedia. I think there is a link on the website or in the forums here.

there's no ETA because i'm not a fan of pressure. That doesn't mean 'never', however. It's not dead.

Yes, but money gets things done, and quicker too. If someone likes the game enough, I think money could help things move along quicker.

money and popularity isn't really my motive

what is though, is character design and constructive feedback

Actually it doesn't.  Some people thought that paying a few people within the Debian Project would get their last release out the door quicker.  Some of the people that weren't getting paid got upset and contributed less, others set up the "bunk-tank" wherein bugs were specifically sought out and filed (Debian policy is to not release with release critical bugs).  Etch was 5 months late.

You do realize that there is no legal way for OA to close source, from the game code to the textures, shaders, and models it will always be available under the terms of the GPL.

But if you want to deposit 12 billion dollars in a Swiss Bank account and give us access to it, I'm sure we'd accept it Cheesy

No no, I just wanted to offer a monthly cash incentive to speed up the progress of one of my favourite games. That's all.

That was simply dumb... Maybe a donations kind of thing would be better than a monthly fee... But this game should be loaded with updates to make it a better type of game that anyone can play. I think this thing has a lot of potential that needs to be unlocked from it.

bah it is not about money it is about how devs feel like
try not to make them upset, bug them less , get a new release faster
for example instead of 2 years you would need to wait 23 months Tongue

there are other ways of donating to the game. models, maps, textures and sounds are good. there are plenty of different ways to help.

Nice troll post, though I think you could have put more effort into it.  Are you just not feeling well today?

That would get 0.8 out the door faster.
