I dont think its possible to have an "Official OpenArena Facebook Group" since no one technically owns OpenArena.  The game is collaboration of developers, coders and players that makes this game work. Therefore, there will be many groups in FB that will be created by fans of the game.

The only true way to make an "official" page is if everyone collaborates, creates the group and advertise it on the OA userinterface. Whether it be on the game itself and/or on the main OA website. Until then, we will have just OA Fans pages.

Facebook is evil, it's centralized and it controls our data.

lol, who cares?

I like seeing pictures of my friends, reading newsfeed posts, and generally keeping in touch.

Keep your privacy settings set correctly (and DON'T put any extremely vital info) and there are no issues.
Agree. Just changed the last line.

I've been in both groups for a long time now, and I'm fairly sure that the more recent new members of my clan have actually heard about the game by seeing the groups listed on my Facebook page (and my Interests, etc).

Some of them actually use Facebook as a way of sharing their screenshots by making public albums, since their profiles are pretty much empty otherwise. I don't, personally, but I don't mind if people find me + friend me, as long as I know who they are!

I'm already friends with most of my clan members and a few from other clans. XD Silly me.

i have three friends who i have been telling for years to stop playing sh*t like cod and play oa. They have never once even checked out the game's website, but they automatically clicked the accept button when i invited them to the group which proded them into checking out the game and they are were going to play but starcraft 2 distracted them Cheesy

Even nicer to be a part of!

I'm gonna make a blog post about it - lots of my friends read my blog (I think/hope) so perhaps it'll get someone interested. I've moved from "I wanna get more clan members" to "I wanna get more OA players" ...about time for that.

*sigh* I wish open-source would catch on.

My friend(s) were all quite confused about the installation process (they use Windows 7, again, *sigh*) and had no idea what to do with the config I gave them - it's what I use, and it's quite nice if I say so myself ^_^ - but hey, progress is progress.

protip: the words "free" and "open-source" don't quite cut it - flash games are free and open-source to most people means "Wikipedia, that thing I use for research papers." Try "Yo, you always see me playing this game and ask why I play it. Try it yourself!" (or "yeah? I always see you playing CoD and frankly I don't understand why you play it. Back in my day, that was a fish.)

Keep your privacy settings set correctly and there are no issues.

It doesn't matter if you keep yor privacy settings set correctly or not : all 3rd part applications can access all your personal information as specified in the privacy statement after the modification they apported last april.

This is one of the things of Facebook I don't like, the need to give access to all (or almost) your personal data, just to try any application. I simply avoid using Facebook for this and other reasons...

There's also the possibility to fake a lot of information, so you can enter everywhere without worrying.
