Title: Server Administration - Banning Users Post by: odigo on April 17, 2008, 08:51:51 PM Is banning users even possible in OA? I put in the rcon password, and proceed to do /rcon status to find the player ID number. Then /rcon banClient <client #> and I get the error "unable to ban user due to lack of authorizing server" or something like that. What is the issue here? Do I need to put another line in the server config with this 'authorizing server' or is there such a server?
Thx, Odigo Title: Re: Server Administration - Banning Users Post by: pikaunforgiven on April 17, 2008, 09:32:59 PM if i remember correctly from q3, banclient is only to ban the cd key of the client. what you want is /rcon addip #.#.#.# with the #.#.#.# of course being the ip or ip range (not sure if that works in OA, i know ranges supposedly didnt work in q3). i know some q3 mods allow you to ban ranges by omitting the last octet or two, but like i said, no idea what OA is capable of.
/rcon removeip is of course to remove an ip from the list, and /rcon g_banips lists the banned ip's. Would I then need g_filterBanIPs "1" in the config, or will /rcon addip *.*.*.* take care of it

So, when I used to host my server I applied both commands and that worked fine to <<ME>>. Title: Re: Server Administration - Banning Users Post by: pikaunforgiven on April 18, 2008, 10:08:20 AM generally to get rid of people who have dynamic ip's you just ban their range, then after a few weeks unban it so other people with the same range can connect again. rarely do troublemakers attack the same server twice in a long timespan, they usually move on after a week or so.
also, unfortunately since OA doesnt need a cd key of any sort so doesnt have an authorizing server, more malicious people can still get around ip bans with a proxy. even if it did have an authorizing server it wouldnt stop people from making a keygen :( just keep that sort of stuff in mind when you ban people. |
