- Uses protocol 71 - Single player campaign re-organized (Thanks cosmo) - 'Depreciated' client for Windows 9X in addition (lacks ipv6 support) - New hitsound - New map: ps37ctf - New map: ctf_gate1 - New map: am_galevish - Space Marine should no longer crash on old client - Chaingun works in unlagged now - non-Free texture folders from previous release removed (this also removes the schism and q3dm6ish-v2 map) Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Post by: RawShark on October 31, 2008, 05:01:05 PM Is there a smaller upgrade file, or do I need to pull down the whole >300mb file? Great to see 0.81 out so quick - will be upgrading the altFIRE.com (http://www.altfire.com) server asap. Need to test if 64bit dedicated server can run on Debian without complaining about GLIBC versions and such.....we currently run 32bit for just that reason.

- which O.S. are you running ? - Can you paste here the log output when starting the game from a console ? - Did you play 0.8.0 and did you experience any problem with it ? - By slow, you mean FPS ? What is your framerate ? (bring down ingame console, type /cg_drawfps 1) Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Post by: TheRottenApple on November 01, 2008, 09:42:43 AM 1. xp sp3

- This is the right log, but it ends quite early, can you start some game and see if more valuable infos come ? - For framerate (FPS), check top-right corner of your screen while playing. - Did you change settings ? You may move your settings&pk3 directory (in document & settings\...) to make sure it doesn't put the mess on your fresh installation. Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! These will be released with the next version? Ah, and for some reason I found that maps in this version runs much well than in 0.8.0. :/ At least, that's my case. Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Did you try standard binaries ? Note: to use legacy binaries, you have to move them in openarena installation directory. What is your graphic card ? Possible your driver is causing the problem. You may also try to change game resolution, you could do that manually editing q3config.cfg. (search on this forum about resolution issues for more infos) Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Legacy binaries are builds which are based upon an older revision of ioquake3 engine. Standard binaries are builds which are based upon a recent revision of ioquake3 engine. Windows 9x compatible build is called "openarena-deprecated.exe". Only one is available, and it's based upon a recent revision of ioquake3 engine. :D Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! The new hit sound resembles (exactly) a cow bell, but surprisingly it's very tolerable. The new maps are great too. Good job :D Title: altFIRE mirror and server Post by: RawShark on November 06, 2008, 05:16:22 AM File -> http://www.altfire.com/main/files/Gaming/Games/OpenArena/oa081.zip

The oa081.zip file from /svn installs straight into Ubuntu, no worries :-) Considering the package available from the Ubuntu repository is still 0.7.7 it is great that the latest release installs without headaches. Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Post by: Johnny on December 22, 2008, 12:15:07 PM sorry for my english I installed new OS - windows 7 pre beta build 6956. OpenArena 8.1 is brake. The impossible to play. other games are work correct. I'm willing to bet that those other games use Direct3D rather than OpenGL. Microsoft is notorious for crappy OpenGL drivers, and probably does this intentionally. You're probably screwed until card manufacturers start releasing drivers for Windows 7. Title: Re: 0.8.1 released! Post by: RAZ3R on December 26, 2008, 04:44:29 AM openarena.exe doesn't work in vista x64 either, a bunch of keys don't work or are mapped incorrectly, so you have to use the deprecated client (which works fine). I'm going to guess ioquake3 people removed stuff they thought was useless, then didn't test on all os's. Hopefuly this gets fixed in next release (or atleast support for the deprecated client continues).

Using Beta software is never advised for day to day use. same goes for software that hasn't reached 1.0 development status [sarcasm]There's a BIG BIG difference between opensource software version numbering and that of for-profit companies :) here's a summary, you can read more here: http://www.faqs.org/docs/artu/ch16s04.html Quote A major consequent difference between open-source practice and elsewhere is that a release level of 1.0 actually means the software is ready to use. In fact, a version number of 0.90 or above is a fairly reliable signal that the code is production-ready, but the developers are not quite ready to bet their reputations on it. So, I guess next Openarena release could mean it's very close to something fromhell could bet his/her life on! :D Title: Re: 0.8.1 released!
