Title: Tony's new suit
Post by: Udi on May 25, 2010, 04:29:41 PM
Tony2 v1
First attempt at skinning (and tailoring).

License: GPLv2
Package: z_tony-new_v1.pk3 (http://udionline.hu/fajlok/openarena/z_tony-new_v1.pk3) (doesn't overwrite the old skin and the thumbnails aren't updated)
Sources: tony-new_v1_sources.zip (http://udionline.hu/fajlok/openarena/tony-new_v1_sources.zip)
Screenshots: 1 (http://udionline.hu/kepek/openarena/tony-new1.jpg), 2 (http://udionline.hu/kepek/openarena/tony-new2.jpg)

I've tried to create the face from scratch using unR's tutorials (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=3404.0) (thanks a lot!), but the shading was cartoony so I deleted that version. Some layers proved to be useful though, so new hair and texture skin for Tony! The rest is just painting over the original texture. Some details were added, and some were changed (shirt collar was too high, the suit has smoking like tails). There's still room for improvements, I want to add stripes for his suit. Feedback is welcome!

Tony2 v2
Painted some stripes on his suite and made the shading more powerful (maybe too powerful). It didn't got much better and I got bored with the pants. Here are the results:

License: GPLv2
Package: z_tony2_v2.pk3 (http://udionline.hu/fajlok/openarena/z_tony2_v2.pk3)

Tony3 v1
I've thought that if I remove the upper suit and make a vest instead, the visibility can be improved. I didn't realise until the red skin that I actually remade Penguin's outfit :-\. So I stopped, here are the results:

I like his new face, looks good.

I'll try this out later, since I'm still stuck at work.

Some more comparison: http://download.tuxfamily.org/openarena/files/images/others/tony%26tony2.jpg ; kinda low-res sorry.

Thanks Udi.

I like the added colors on the collar and hat

It looks nice, but it looks like he's still invisible if he is not standing directly under a lamp.

Could it be possible to add some more trim to the hat, tie, sleeves and feet, and make the trim brighter, so he's easier to spot in dark areas?

My main beef with Tony is that if he's in the dark, I'm basically blind and have to shoot randomly at the walls, hoping to hit something.

Thanks for the feedback :)!

I have problems importing Tony's lower.md3 into Blender with the import script stickied on the board (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2139.0) (the same unR mentioned and Cacatoes hosted), I get the following error:
Code:

I can however import the model with the import script described on the icculus site (http://icculus.org/~phaethon/q3/md3import/md3import.html), but the UV map seems to be lost with that. And I could only find the head blender file on the SVN (source/assets/models/gangter/28.blend). I can go on without the UV map, but it would be easier to have it. Nevermind, I should have read the second chapter of my Blender book :-[. Thanks pinball for pointing out the layers!

New release, not finished, just dumping, so I can remove it from my todo list. See first post for links.

This variant looks better, IMHO. The edges of the jacket are more accurate.

I guess, there could be one more variant - without jacket, like he's wearing the vest.
