Post by: Thoushaltdie on June 02, 2010, 01:41:13 PM
why cant merman swim faster or not drown or something to show that he is a freaking merman(and therefore awesome)?!?

Because that would provide an advantage the only purpose for the characters is to have something different to look at beside the same thing over and over again. However I would like one map with the flight power up because I am wonder what Gargoyle would look like flying.

Hey that's a good point. There are NO stock maps in OA that have the flight power up yet is there?

That needs to change.

You can do a /devmap and type /give flight

It's not like his wings flap or anything. He will just float through the air in a standing position.

By the way, I love Merman! It's a shame so few players use that model :(

Looks like Neon_Knight's remake of Redish will have flight: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=703.msg26294#msg26294 (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=703.msg26294#msg26294)

Correction: it has. :D
Another map, IIRC, which has that powerup, is am_thornish.

the only map I played with flight is a map called "mctf" on the server "arle's outer heaven"

and I get why merman shouldnt get to swim faster but why cant he have an animation that is different when he is swiming to show that he is a merman? like make him swim through the water like a snake not just float through it upright.

And on the subject of balanced based on model. Aren't space marine and gargoyle bigger? because you can shoot the wings on gargoyle and SM is just bigger in general? I dont know any code so I can't really look and see. But it seems to me that those two have larger hitareas.

All models have the same hitbox.

It would be awfully unfair otherwise.

Model-based abilities are something for mods, not basic play.

Are you sure they all have the same hitbox? because it seems like gargoyle can be hit in the wings and that make his hitbox much larger then liz or something.

Are these maps you speak of being considered as stock maps for 0.8.6? Or whatever version is next?

Those maps are on the SVN repository, so they will appear in future versions for sure.

I've made such the same hypotesys in another post , but the answer was YES also for me ... but since you seem to have noticed the same behaviour , if it's not caused by hitbox which is (should be ?? ) the same for all models , the problem is elsewhere. Maybe in some discrepancies in the prediction code.

Good to know, thanks.  ^-^
