No, it might be a problem with gamefront.

Can someone suggest another place to upload the game?

Maximalgröße:100 MB (102400 KByte)

Not an option. :/

(I'm uploading it to AtomicGamer, it has the "wait in line", but it's something...)

I'll still leave a permissionless zip up and switch links when a fixed one is available

and where did that sourceforge page come from? and why is it 20 megabytes larger?

I'll repack and reupload it tonight.

Weird because you told me you did set the permissions before uploading it

ive spoken to people that are using linux that says there having issues with the folder as well

the patch has no issues with the logos or the crosshairs other than the logo being to the far RIGHT

i have demo but cannot upload here because it doesnt accept the .dm_71 attachment

Well, this is what happens when joining an unpure 0.8.5 or even 0.8.1 server with the 0.8.8 pk3 installed locally. Don't do it.

Swaggerall, bugs caused by turning off sv_pure aren't considered bugs. Turning off sv_pure should be done for test purposes only. Turning it off can cause unpredictible results. If a server uses sv_pure 0, you should blame its admin, not OA devs. More info: (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Pure_server. To connect to that specific server, you will have to manually disable 088 patch before starting the game (e.g. renaming it from .pk3 to .pk3.old).

IIRC, the main menu logo moved to the right is intentional, Fromhell did it this way on purpose... Anyway, if you tested the RCs (that have been there since months), you should have already noticed that. I have no opinion if I like that or not...

With folder problems with Linux do you mean that they have problems accessing game data due to file permissions which are set to allow "root" user only? They have to change file permissions (chmod)... This is a problem that affects the "complete" 0.8.8 download package, but a fixed package should have been uploaded this night...

I have to try if crosshairs have something strange as you say, I have not tried to change them!
Are you sure you have a clean installation, without extra pk3s in your "baseoa" folders under both "basepath" (installation) folder and "DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Homepath]homepath (http://([b)" (configuration/autodownload) folder?

If you have to upload files extensions that are not accepted by the forum, just compress them in .zip format before.

Gig, your comment seems strange to me.  Pure was never the default in Quake III Arena or Team Arena.  The fact that it is mandatory and not recommended is odd to this Quake veteran but perhaps, it's because I am not aware of previous OA discussions leading to the rationale of that "official" decision.

sv_pure "1" is the default value for Quake 3 1.32c. I don't have any previous sources or binaries though. It's also the default in every ioquake3 release ever since.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: GrosBedo on February 21, 2012, 12:16:00 PM
@WaspKiller: also the reason behind this is that gamecode updates are correctly picked using sv_pure 1, without it clients cannot know whether they are using the right version or not. Also, sv_pure bugs were fixed in some revisions of ioquake3, so now it shouldn't be avoided anymore.

Good to know.

I don't think so but I will verify by installing Q3 Gold and then as many of the individual updates that I have like 1.27, 1.29 and 1.32b/c.  As for the ioq3 source, I never commented on that but I trust what you say as correct.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: GrosBedo on February 21, 2012, 01:53:37 PM
@WaspKiller: to add more details, there's no hack with sv_pure for OA, it's only the normal behaviour, and in fact it can also be used to this effect with ExcessivePlus: if an excessiveplus v2.0 has sv_pure 1, players that connects with excessiveplus v2.1 will automatically only use excessiveplus v2.0 pk3 (since E+ also use a similar incremental updates system as OA).

So it's mainly set as default to allow for automatic retrocompatibility (client OA 0.8.8 connecting to servers OA <= 0.8.5), but for a normal update (from OA 0.8.5 to OA 0.8.8) one can disable sv_pure (but it's safer to keep it enable to ensure that all clients load the required pk3 as needed). So a server that is up-to-date can set sv_pure 0, but a server running an older version should not at any cost.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 21, 2012, 02:01:59 PM
My Q3 1.32c reports sv_pure 1 as default. Even my q3 DEMO (the hystorical four maps Q3 demo! v1.11) reports sv_pure 1 as default.

I noticed neonknight took liberty with the filename (openarena-0.8.8-repack.zip)...

YOU MESSED UP IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE OA088.ZIP

you also double messed up, you deleted the original zip file!  I didn't want that until the new repack is confirmed to be available! I thought I made that clear in a PM. Now people at modDB can't download the full thing in the news link!

088 has one screwed up launch -_-  it doesn't help the news article for 088's release was authed too late enough to be snowed on by the next days' news so it never got any front page attention. Makes me wonder if that's intentional

I need a vacation.

Grey Matter and Gig, both of your are correct.  I installed Q3 Gold (the original 1999 release that I purchased in 2000) and Pure is the default for both non-dedicated and dedicated servers.  It was not even something changed by a later patch.

OSP and Excessive Plus Clan Wars always mandated that Pure be enabled along with many other requirements so I guess this is where my confusion started.  I always assumed that Pure was not the default since it seemed redundant to insist on its being enabled when the map intros always show in large print whether the server is unlagged and/or pure.  Mea culpa.

...I need a vacation.

You deserve one.  Congratulations to you and the Dev Team on the release of 0.8.8.  The full extent of time and skill invested will probably never be known or fully appreciated by most players but the faithful are eternally grateful.

Swaggerall, another thing that you may check: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=4460.0
If you have 085 patch pk3 under %appdata%\OpenArena\baseoa AND 088 patch under OAinstallation_folder\baseoa, you will experience problems. In that case, move both 085 and 088 patch pk3s to the same folder.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Virus on February 22, 2012, 03:30:30 AM
I have the same problem as swaggerall with all-dark ps9ctf map since updating to 088. I checked the folders and moved away all custom pk3 files except brightskins.

 (http://img294.imagevenue.com/loc541/th_99065_shot0005_122_541lo.jpg) (http://img294.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=99065_shot0005_122_541lo.jpg)

Further I noticed on oasago2 (changed visuals/details if I am right) that I can see through the arched walls when I get close to them and the stairs of the bridge are very bumpy. This is for server A which is the same swaggerall is about.

Server A (http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena&server=91.121.201.15:27960)
It says pure 0 and problems are as listed above.

Then I checked other servers
Server B (http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena&server=62.44.222.148:27960)
It says pure 1 and old mapscreenshots appear during loading and both maps look like before. So as you wrote before: Server A needs to be pure.

Server C (http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena&server=188.40.48.143:27977)
Had also tested this one. The name says it is already 088 and has pure 1. Oasago2 with new look plays all smooth there. But ps9ctf is dark???

It is not immediately important to me, but why is ps9ctf dark on server C ?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: GrosBedo on February 22, 2012, 04:23:26 AM
Videoflags I'd say.

Server B: 7
Server C: 0 (as in server A).

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 22, 2012, 05:05:17 AM
I know nothing about videoflags. Do you know where I could find some documentation?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Neon_Knight on February 22, 2012, 05:35:56 AM
Too strange, I can see ps9ctf normally, and I'm using 0.8.8 and a default config for it. (Only changed the screen size to 1440x900 and disabled flares and lens reflection)

Tell your admins to make sure that the server is updated to 0.8.8, both binary and pk3-wise. Also, check for pk3 with customized vms.

I know nothing about videoflags. Do you know where I could find some documentation?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available

"Videoflags" or "fairflags"?
Maybe they were initially called "fairflags" and later renamed to "videoflags"? In my OA, "fairflags" variable seems to do not exist... while "videoflags" exists (and it is set to 7, the default: that should mean 4+2+1=all three locks enabled?).

Maybe also g_persistantpowerups (cited in the post you linked) was the first name of what is now named "DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/G_runes]g_runes (http://([b)"?

Update: tried... if I set videoflags to 0, now cg_fov higher than 140 actually work (while usually cg_fov>140 affects only weapon drawing and not the world, that is shown like with 140). And it is possible to use r_vertexlight 1 (while it usually reverts to 0 instead). PS: I finally understood why high r_picmip values are automatically reverted to 3!

GrosBedo, how do you think this may be related with their problem? Maybe they use vertex light and that map it looks especially dark in that case?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Neon_Knight on February 22, 2012, 06:18:17 AM
Yep, fairflags was later renamed to videoflags. It was a suggestion of mine, for a more neutral sounding name.

Also, simple: if with a default config the map still looks dark offline (as in, using devmap and a default config) then I'll believe it's a bug of the map. Otherwise, it's an error of their config.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 22, 2012, 06:31:57 AM
For me, with a default configuration, many maps look dark: one of the first things I have to do when dealing with a "clean" configuration, is to adjust brightness.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Neon_Knight on February 22, 2012, 06:34:58 AM
I mean, dark = pitch black.

And strange, I keep on deleting my config and replacing it with a default one, (only replacing the resolution and deactivating r_lensreflection1 - and no, none of them are the problem) and the maps doesn't look dark for me. VGA problem, perhaps?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Graion Dilach on February 22, 2012, 06:48:41 AM
Gamma, IMO.

Since gamma can be adjusted by many external levels, like room lighting, monitor settings, it's kinda beyond control. Especially that some people have better eyes, can see more out from the darkness, some not.

I do think tho that maybe gamma should be upped in the default config a tiny bit.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Virus on February 22, 2012, 08:21:16 AM
Offline ps9ctf is all normal.
It is not about gamma. Even gamma 1000 changes nothing. The world itself is black and I can see through some iterations of walls (item show up and disappear when I move around).

Then it's a problem of the server. It might be outdated (i.e. using a previous version of the map, the one in 0.8.5, as the one in 0.8.8 was changed) or there's another pk3 corrupting the map.

There's also the chance that it might not be a pure server...

If offline ps9ctf is normal, it should also be normal online.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: GrosBedo on February 22, 2012, 08:58:42 AM
GrosBedo, how do you think this may be related with their problem? Maybe they use vertex light and that map it looks especially dark in that case?

Yes that was the idea. But it seems that it does not come from the graphical settings clientside.

I concur with Neon_Knight, probably conflicting pak on the server (but the server is shown as pure, but nevertheless pure does not fix every pak conflicts).

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: GrosBedo on February 22, 2012, 09:03:03 AM
Ok confirmed, when I connected to the server with the update already installed on my side, it still required me to download a separate ps9ctf.pk3.

So I think we can conclude that they have a conflicting pk3 map that should be removed from their servers now that ps9ctf has been included in OA 0.8.8 pk3.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 22, 2012, 09:07:05 AM
This post has been written at the same time of GrosBedo's post above this one:
Maybe it's the server that has got the problem of having 085 patch under homepath and 088 patch under basebath?

I imagine this problem may affect the server as well as it can affect the client...
It would be an unmanaged patch conflict, too... like when a messed up 088 client connects to a valid 088 server, but inverted.

UPDATE: GrosBedo's post above this one seems interesting...

Im running 188.40.48.143:27977 (Server C a few posts earlier) i removed that old pk3's now. :)

Many Servers could run into this problems, maybe a newspost about the old pk3's from "beta maps" would be a good idea? Not every serveradmin is reading here much. But at least i dont had any Problems with ps9ctf after upgrading the server to 0.8.8. :)

Swaggerall... if I understood correctly (but I may be wrong) the problems with that specific map were caused by those servers:
- server A has sv_pure turned off, and this is bad.
- server C was using a different version of the map... try connecting to it again now.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Neon_Knight on February 22, 2012, 06:38:24 PM
In fact, the problem is server C having a ps9ctf.pk3 with a different version of ps9ctf. This is the server admin's responsability. Not ours. Nothing to fix on our part here.

You failed to understand me, ignore Swaggerall. The problem is not with the maps, the problem is with OA's internal functions. When playing elimination whichever team spawns first gets to run around the map during warmup. (team A) Meanwhile, every single member of team B spawns dead in a wall, underwater, or in some random place. The map does not matter, it's not a map issue.

Does it happen during warmup only?
Considering that in Elimination there may be two kinds of warmup... we should understand which is the one that causes problems.

g_dowarmup: Generic warmup that can be used in any gametype. Not sure if allowed values are 0 and 1 only or more (I don't know if it is possible to set how long this warmup will be)

elimination_warmup: Elimination specific warmup. Value means seconds between rounds, must at least be 2 and higher than elimination_activewarmup
elimination_activewarmup: Elimination specific. Time (in seconds) to roam before weapons activate, must at least be 1 and lower than elimination warmup

first off some of the parts in oa are missing colors such as in the system menu AND the crosshairs like the X/t

are missing infact theres alot of crosshairs missing

Hi! I've had a case where the background of the "system" menu (at least when accessed from the ESC menu during a match) went light grey (making text very difficult to see). I haven't been able to figure out the reason of the problem, but after deleting the homepath folder (Danger! Do it only if you know what deleting it means and you are sure you want!), it did not happen anymore.

About crosshairs, I've just tested some of them (not all of them), and I haven't been able to find any flaw in them.

Could you please post some screenshots of the problems you mentioned? Thank you!

This is when you use the latest 088 gamecode vm but you're not using the latest textures and menu packages. I did have this exact same bug when developping some stuff because I would only compile the 088 gamecode and not the rest.

Probably this happened to you because the vm was 088 but the menus or textures were 085 or 081 (and loaded from homepath).

Basically, not a bug.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 23, 2012, 04:20:00 PM
Maybe yes. I figured out what caused it in my case. I'm doing some tests with DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Videoflags#Videoflags]videoflags (http://([b) set to 0 (instead of 7, the default). If you set videoflags 0, r_vertexlight 1, vid_restart, then (from ESC menu during a match, not from the main menu!) access "Setup" menu, you see this grey background (instead of black) that makes reading very difficult. See screenshot attached.

It is not a "big" bug (I suppose few people will be affected, considering that nowadays vertex lighting is usually not used), but probably it's something that may be fixed in the future.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 23, 2012, 05:20:01 PM
And I can confirm the warmup bug in Elimination mode.

During the "inactive" part of the elimination warmup, players of a team spawn correctly, but players of the other one spawn in wrong places (e.g. underwater, in walls..) where should not be spawn points, and immediately die. Once dead, they can only spectate other players until the warmup enters the "active" part and they return in-game.
If one activates generic warmup, too (g_dowarmup 1; ps: it is possible to change its duration with g_warmup), the bug happens a first time when the generic warmup starts, and a second time when the "inactive" elimination-specific warmup stars.

How to reproduce:
Launch two openarena sessions on your computer (or use two computers in LAN, if you can).
In one of them set elimination_warmup 20, elimination_activewarmup 5, g_gametype 8, map <the map you wish>.
From the other OA session, browse local servers and join the game.
One of the two players will spawn in a strange point and die, and will have to wait for the timer to reach 5 before entering the game.
In the "server" session, use /map_restart to make the problem happen again.

I suppose this is a problem only Sago can fix...

PS: I'm not sure I correctly understood why they have been created both elimination_warmup and elimination_activewarmup... what's the difference between the two (other than the second one is the "last part" of the first one)?

About various weapons sounds that do not play in Elimination during "waiting for players" and during "g_dowarmup"... I thought it was some sort of feature (a sort of "quiet mode" while not really playing), but maybe it's just a bug. Again, we need Sago for an answer!

during active warmup, you can fire your weapons. that's the only difference

Peter Silie, you can start a skirmish and have a bot join the game while you are a spectator. Then try to join the game yourself. The second team alway spawns dead.

during active warmup, you can fire your weapons. that's the only difference
I thought it was this way, but during my tests, yesterday, I noticed that I was not able to fire before the match begins, not even in the last seconds (those that should be of "active" warmup). This is coherent with its description in the wiki (elimination_activewarmup: time (in seconds) to roam before weapons activate)... but in this case I don't get the difference with inactive warmup. Maybe during inactive warmup you can still join a team, and during active not? I've not tested this yet. UPDATE: tested, it is possible to join a team during both inactive and active elimination warmup. It is not possible to shoot during both inactive and active elimination warmup.

@Peter: you cannot find any server locally? Very strange... maybe it's your firewall that is blocking one of the two sessions from network traffic. For how to create and find a LAN server, you can take a look to (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Multiplayer

@Swaggerall: use the "print" button (usually on the upper right corner) on your keyboard (this will store your screen to your windows "clipboard"), then open an image manupulation program (e.g. Paint) and paste the screenshot there, then save it as a .jpg file where you wish (if you took it from windowed mode, crop the image).

PS: What about talking about 0.8.8 bugs in the thread about 0.8.8 bugs (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=4446.0)?

PPS: It seems both missing weapons sounds before match start and instant-death during warmup problems affect gametype 8 (Elimination) and 9 (CTF Elimination), but not 10 (Last Man Standing, which is similar, but does not have teams).

elimination_warmup is the time between rounds. elimination_activewarmup are the time before the round starts that the player is allowed to spawn.

I believe the problem that you are referring to appears because the spawn function are not executed because active warmup (where you do the actual respawn). This is most notably in the beginning of the game because you start in (0,0,0) and in some maps that is outside the map. The problem does also happen then you die but here your position is the place of your corpse that are likely in the map somewhere.

I have known about this for a long time but I have always considered it cosmetic because it only happens before the game really starts (also 0,0,0 is usually a valid location and non-active-warmup tends to be very short). Many attempts to fix it have made the problem much worse (game affecting), so they have always been reverted.

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: Gig on February 25, 2012, 02:10:14 PM
A strange thing is that some players actually spawn during the "inactive" warmup (and can move just like during the "active" warmup), while others die... Maybe not everyone spawns at 0.0.0, but why?

...and, from what you said... are you saying that in theory during "inactive" warmup noone should spawn, but everyone should be in "free spectate" mode, until "active" warmup begins?

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available

Surviving players can stay but they too are forced to respawn when active warmup starts.

There is a small exception because to just spectate until another player joins is quite boring. I don't remember the exact rules for it anymore (this was coded back in 2007) but if the round could not start due to missing players the game would relax a bit and allow spawning players and activate weapons. This feature was never polished but even in that state I still considered it a better alternative.

It seems the same problem as here:
http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=4443.msg43548#msg43548

Fromhell replied that "Vertex light is not supported" (I suppose this means FH will not search a way to fix it).

Title: Re: Finished 0.8.8 not available
Post by: andrewj on February 26, 2012, 07:06:50 AM
r_vertexLight 1 seems to mess up all complex shaders, just go to oa_bases3 and see the difference in the sky or the flashy bit in the flag rooms.  Since the menu background is a shader, it messes that up too when a game is active.

The fix would require seeing how r_vertexLight 1 manipulates the shaders and make it smarter (if possible).
