Title: CVS and moving away from Fileplanet
Post by: Hieronymus on October 02, 2005, 06:53:47 AM
Hello!

Right now, Open Arena uses Fileplanet to distribute files, and frankly, that sucks. You need to register, just to download the files :-(

Also, it is only possible to download 'complete' releases, not the current developer version. If Open Arena used CVS, it would be possible to get more involved into what's happening currently -> development would be faster.

Open Arena could apply for free hosting, CVS, etc. on (for example) these sites:

http://savannah.nongnu.org/
https://gna.org/
http://sourceforge.net/

Greetings,

Jeroen

i've a bad reputation with sourceforge

and early on in the project a cvs isn't necessary, or either that and i'm too stupid to set one up now

Okay, but can you atleast host the files somewhere else than fileplanet? It wants me to log in for no apparant reason, and asks me to pay money :-/

You don't have to pay, though it still requires registration.

You could try bugmenot.com

What's to fear from slashdot?

BANDWIDTH HOGGING

That's what the "slashdot effect" term is coined for.

Why not Sourceforge?

It has a huge publicity.

You do not need to use CVS(SVN which will be implemented in the next future).

But you can host the package like you do on Fileplanet.

I know a lot of people, who dislike Fileplanet etc., and won't register.

Okay, thx for the answer.
BTW: I tried the forum from a couple of computers. Seems to be laggy. Is there some problem last days?

yeah there's currently a mysql problem with the server that's beyond my control but it should be fixed soon. Haven't had one of these in awhile
