Title: CVS and moving away from Fileplanet Post by: Hieronymus on October 02, 2005, 06:53:47 AM Hello!
Right now, Open Arena uses Fileplanet to distribute files, and frankly, that sucks. You need to register, just to download the files :-( Also, it is only possible to download 'complete' releases, not the current developer version. If Open Arena used CVS, it would be possible to get more involved into what's happening currently -> development would be faster. Open Arena could apply for free hosting, CVS, etc. on (for example) these sites: http://savannah.nongnu.org/ https://gna.org/ http://sourceforge.net/ Greetings, Jeroen Title: Post by: fromhell on October 02, 2005, 07:17:02 PM i've a bad reputation with sourceforge
and early on in the project a cvs isn't necessary, or either that and i'm too stupid to set one up now Title: Post by: Hieronymus on October 03, 2005, 08:25:17 AM Okay, but can you atleast host the files somewhere else than fileplanet? It wants me to log in for no apparant reason, and asks me to pay money :-/
Title: Post by: fromhell on October 03, 2005, 01:49:39 PM You don't have to pay, though it still requires registration.
You could try bugmenot.com Title: Post by: jzero on November 01, 2005, 10:22:38 AM What's to fear from slashdot?
Title: Post by: fromhell on November 01, 2005, 05:26:05 PM BANDWIDTH HOGGING
That's what the "slashdot effect" term is coined for. Title: Post by: Speedator on February 08, 2006, 01:26:00 PM Why not Sourceforge?
It has a huge publicity. You do not need to use CVS(SVN which will be implemented in the next future). But you can host the package like you do on Fileplanet. I know a lot of people, who dislike Fileplanet etc., and won't register. Title: Post by: Speedator on February 09, 2006, 10:54:14 AM Okay, thx for the answer.
BTW: I tried the forum from a couple of computers. Seems to be laggy. Is there some problem last days? Title: Post by: fromhell on February 09, 2006, 02:32:53 PM yeah there's currently a mysql problem with the server that's beyond my control but it should be fixed soon. Haven't had one of these in awhile
