From what I can glean:

This is a first-person shooter/rpg in its infancy, with a few community members working on it. This creates a few questions for me:

Who is responsible for making the decisions on which parts of the project?

Is the project under active development?

Is it an error that I'm having using Debian Lenny/Firefox and Windows XP/Firefox, or is the English part of the website totally borked?

exact output of the error message:
Quote
Warning: require(/home/.abreactions/openarena/public_html/board/SSI.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/openarena/public_html/haktoria/indexen.php on line 13

1. I'm responsible for this one. The reason this project exists, is because I hated how the original game turned out (Hexen II). It only had hype from being an early retail game with out-of-the-box 3D support...and nothing else.

2. Yes and no. Since I am pretty much one of the only ones active on this (and some others) it's an on-and-off kind of matter. Other than what has submitted around Oct-Dec 08 there hasn't been any progress since. I want to reverse the deadness of this myself too, but time is sucking. I've still yet to reach the 'deathmatch test' stage where all of the items, projectiles and player classes are modeled and conceptualized. I briefly had a concept artist (Eriance) for some of these but he doesn't do males. Sad I may have to improvise for the Paladin (Barbaric muscley SMASHSMASH guy), Crusader (Bishounen pretty boy in shining armor) and Necromancer (Robed figure of ambiguous gender, race, etc. With a hood on you can't tell!!).

3. The english site broke mysteriously, japanese site works however both sites are just as bare as the other.

Interesting. So is the game RPG-style where you level up and keep your items between plays, or is it more like an FPS where each level/life you start out fresh? I'm not really familiar with the Hexen series, since it requires a proprietary license and I don't like to use software with those if I can avoid them...

Why is the Paladin a berserk warrior? Historically they were the upstanding knight, and essentially a religious version of a crusader on horseback...

Was the breakage related to a file that got corrupt or missing? Are you hosting this off your personal computer, or is it a remote server that you upload stuff to?

Edit: Forgot that I can't see the source for the page, since it's generated by PHP. I'm not perfect with computers, but if you'd like, I'd give taking a look at the page source a try.

Your best bet is to read the Wikipedia page about Hexen II.

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but where is the SVN repo? I'm curious to see what's already out there for this project.

http://mancubus.net/svn/hosted/fsfps/haktoria/

There is no pre-built paks (afaik), and even if you build it yourself it requires a recent version of uhexen (with changes to allow stand-alone games) to play it.

Don't get excited about the RPG part. It's more or less a tack-on.

What kinds of tools would I need to build/modify/run the project's bits, then? I'm not really familiar with how projects of this variety are worked on.
