Hi-

I'm using the ioquake3-smp.x86_64 file to run OA on my 64 bit AMD x24600+ and it seems to work fine.

In the config file is an option which is believe is "r_smp", or something like that meaning "I am using an SMP capable machine".

So, my question is, using the binary listed above, should I really care about the r_smp value as it gives me an error message if I have it on.
And also, how would I check to see the it in fact is using SMP ?

I guess a general 64 bit SMP overiew would help me.

Thanks in advance - B

I doubt you'll notice much difference if you use the non-smp binary as the smp code wasn't written for todays multi-core processors and has been removed from upstream due to the broken nature of it.

FWIW, r_smp set to 1 will utilize more than one cpu, but you probably won't notice any positive performance difference.

Bummer...

Could anyone from the "official OA team" please make a general statement about the appropriate binary and settings to use for 64 bit SMP online play ?

Thanks in advance - B
