Acer Aspire One - Open Arena Screen Resolution

I've installed Open Arena onto my Acer One, but the screen resolution and menu's don't look right.

I've edited the config file to the correct width & height and set the mode to -1

When we start the game the opening looks fine and the menu appears.
But I can't move my mouse using the trackpad and as soon as I try the menu disappears.

Can any one help ??

Please copy/paste here the lines you added. What exactly happens when the menu disappears, the screen goes all black?

This is what we added:

seta r_customheight "600"
seta r_customwidth "1024"
seta r_mode "-1"

The game starts fine, nice opening screen and graphics.

The menu appears with the graphics at the top of the screen.
The mouse cursor appears but can't be moved via the trackpad.

Using the arrow keys I can move up and down the menu and then it disappears !!  The graphics at the top of the screen stay and using the arrows I can still select menu entries, even though I can't see them.

Pressing enter selects the entry and at one point we managed to get into the game but couldn't do anything (we didn't know the controls, as we couldn't set them via the menu !!)
