Where is my blood??

Hey fraggers...
I recently started using linux after my old mac retired... OA works great, my graphics are better than ever!  The problem is, I see nooooo blood.  I have the little bar in my "Player" settings set to red, and I have even changed in manually in the console.  But still, players just either fall over or disappear when they get fragged.  Almost half the fun is is the cheesey gore!  I want my blood back!  Suggestions?

That multicoloured bar in the Player settings is for changing the rail beam colour.

To see blood, you could try typing these in the console:
/com_blood 1
/cg_gibs 1
