I have installed Openarena and discovered that there is no bots for singleplayer or multiplayer. What is going on here? Is there a fix for this yet? If so please send queries to zencala@msn.com. I am using Ubuntu on a 64 Bit computer Compaq CQ60-615DX Laptop.

Did you use an automatic download tool to get the game, or downloaded it manually from the official site? (0.8.1+patch 0.8.5 is the latest version)

There are bots, at least for most of us.
- Maybe you have autodownloaded a .pk3 which corrupts your game, check your ~/.openarena/baseoa directory and see what's in there.
- Open the console and have an eye on error messages.
- You may try to use the /addbot command when starting a squirmish and see what result it produces.

I think you're not the first to have problems with bots when using Ubuntu version of OA, if so you may download and use the .zip from OA website.

I have a similar porblem with bot in the latest version of Ubuntu (64bits version).

If I use openarena.x86_64 to run the game, i have no bots. The terminal displays this message:

Deleting all pk3 files in the home folder doesn't help at all.

If I use the 32 bits executable (openarena.i386) all bots do appear as it should.

Hope it helps, good luck.

If you don't have that problem with the official oa.ws release, then you may report that bug to Ubuntu if it's not already listed.

I did not installed it with the ubuntu synaptec or apt-get insatller, but manually downloaded it from oa.ws, and extracted it.

I use 10.04 64 bit and have no problems. Please also test http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=1933.0 to see if the problem is already fixed in a later binary.

Hi Sago,

I downloaded those files, both the 32/64 bits executables work with bots. Smiley

The person that provided this deb package on the web said this is for tester I didn't read further in the mailing list but I tried it and it solved the problem.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openarena/+bug/554748

Dounload the pacakge:

Hello Everyone:

I experienced the same problem when I compiled the code ( version 0.8.8 ). After some google time, I found out this is a string copy bug in the code/botlib/l_script.c occurs in 64 bit linux machines.

This can be solved by changing two lines in the code.

problem discussion:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=526338

solution:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=367215&action=diff

having build the code again, the game worked with the bots.

Thank's for the links manfrd, I'll put that onto the list of the hotfix updates.

Could someone check if this is only an openarena bug or if it exists in the latest ioquake3 releases?

ioquake3 had this fixed long ago, svn rev 1731 from Nov 2009.
