care to share some details?
a screenshot could help, same with what map packs you may have (if its not a huge list) and what other mods you have. also what you did before it happened could be useful.

just hit print screen (or print scrn depending on keyboard) and paste into mspaint (assuming you are using windows).

could be possible, although "usually" maps dont have non-map things in them. ive run into a few map packs in the past that completely broke OA, and a few that would break pretty much all the bots other than a select few, so ya it could happen.
go back and think about every change you made in the past that could have led up to it, and narrow things down till you find what caused it.

just move them to another folder outside of the open arena one and see what happens.

Have you tried just reinstalling the game? That's usualy the easiest thing to do when things fuck up.

unfortunately doesnt really work that way, since open arena saves files outside of the actual install directory by default.

Okay, this is a bit of a late reaction.
I had the same problem. Probably autodownloaded something dumb. In my case tha main oa screen after starting up was pink. At the same time in the down-right side of the screen it says something like (protocol o.7.X). In my home directory there was a pack named, pak7-patch.pk3. When you delete is it's back to normal oa, in my case atm 0.85.
