hi,

useful tip if you are interested in how maps are made. if you start a map in the console with \devmap then you can use the r_showtris command to superimpose a wireframe over what you see. to switch it on use...

\r_showtris 1

...and to turn it off use...

\r_showtris 0

Quite nice! Thx for this.. Whats most interesting is seeing when things actually get drawn Cheesy Is there an option to not look through the walls, iow to make the wireframe just draw itself where you would actualy see it?

Edit: it even draws the console wireframed, lol. Hows that :S

i don't think so, but that's an interesting point. showtris only shows you what the engine is actually rendering, the less unnecessary detail you see, the better the map has been set up.

They are 3D too. Remember, GL (and the parts of your graphics card that accelerate it) only knows how to draw 3D. 2D elements such as the HUD and text (open the console with triangles on) are simply drawn using triangles that are parallel with the screen plane.

Hmm interesting, I never tought about it like that tbh. I just had in mind that the console would be some 'overlapping' 2D piece, like a window which comes dropping down. Kewl..

here's a screenshot i took where the game engine had to render what seemed like the entire map at once. which kills the framerate.

Too bad that you need /devmap for it to work, I would have loved playing OA like that...
Kills framerate? That's where I usually end up with my fps counter in ffa Smiley

interesting idea, you could always open the console again and use the addbot command.
