I've been looking at this forum now for a while because I really like the game, and I saw that some people got banned.
Why? Should I be scared at all? I just want to learn more about the game!

Beware of forum mods, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

... or perhaps because they were crunchy and taste good with ketchup?

don't worry. as long as you're not:
- trolling (posting for the sake of annoying)
- spamming (REALY HOT PORN LINKS! VIAGRAS! And MILLIONAIRE CARRERES AND RUSIAN MAIL ORDER BRIDES)
- flaming, with insults, in topics where such thing is not permitted (especially if it's your first post, instant ban there)
- whining (subset of flaming, whining is not meant to be a vague ban all for flaming, but more like reposting locked topics of things already set in stone, such as the 'autodownload default on' thing)
- drama raising (IM LEAVING!!!! IM LEAVING THIS FORUM FOREVER!!!! YOUR HITLER! This is related to flaming, trolling, and whining)
- leaving this forum forever editing out every post you can edit because I disabled deleting and account deletion.
- nudity, unless marked NSFW (and only topless nudity at that. Currently experimenting this on the haktoria forums)
- sensationalizing on issues making them bigger than they actually are (this is not limited to forums but on news sites as well. a subset of drama since it is intended for drama)

My tolerance varies depending on how close a release is going to get. If it's a pressuring time (typically shit starts hitting the fan prior to release), expect stuff to happen instantly.

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

Forbidding seems incitative for me, the less people feel they can talk, the more they'll find other (bad) ways.
Why not unbanning ?
You don't need to make them permanent ; It would help OpenArena to get more collaborations and contributions (for guys who did contribute, and for hypothetical contributors who have some mitigated feeling).

I highly doubt forum behavior is turning away contributors - though I do blame the color scheme instead, and the lack of 'we need etc and etc' on the front page.

It may give a bad reputation to the project in its overall, just for the sake of it that could be changed.
Personally I wish there was a better relationship between ioq3 and OA, and there is this issue about textures which could have been better investigated.
Don't you think it would be better if ioq3 guys could read and participate to this forum ? Some users would get better feedbacks from what is related to the engine, it would help bugtracking and would benefit both projects.

IMHO YOU ARE TROLLED Cheesy

What do you expect to be added to OA by ioq3 guys? Relations were good and they didn't add anything to oa or participate. Their only concern is ioq3, which is actually good for oa, and it makes a good relationship unnecessary. Also ioq3 ppl are done with the project afaict
