I would like to bring to your attention the gaming tournament that we are preparing. It's a joint initiative by Nuxified.org and Cluenet.org. You can read more about it here: http://www.nuxified.org/article/nuxified_and_cluenet_prepare_a_gaming_tourney_you_are_invited

The idea is to promote Free Software gaming, but we have a few decisions to make first and are inviting anyone interested to join, vote and hopefully enter the actual tourney as a player. OpenArena as a fully Free Software game is sure to be included and we'd like you guys in. Smiley

Let me know what you think and of any suggestions, opinions, anything you might have to say. Smiley

Cheers

Glad to see you interested Caboose. If the second option of the vote (here: http://www.nuxified.org/poll/which_games_should_be_selected_for_the_upcoming_tournament) is decided then the map you desire should be a sure thing. Wink

So go and vote!

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

NO

a slight clarification here. if you meant...

"can we take id software's copyrighted textures from the original game and use them with openarena to play q3dm17?"

...then the answer is indeed no, that would be illegal. if, however, you meant...

"can we find which textures q3dm17 needs that openarena doesn't have, create our own gpl versions from scratch and donate them to openarena"

...then i think you should be ok. you need to be clear with these things. Smiley

I thought that was implied.

simply lettng you know i dont care what it looks like. as long as it has the same flow and weapon placement, and the jump pads behave properly. they did exactly that for dm17 in quake 2.

Why not q2dm6 or q2dm1?  Why q3dm17?

if you wanna go the q2 route the best q2 maps is EDGE q2dm3 i believe and ive already seen in somewhere in OA. cant remember where tho. and i jut think q3dm17 is a fun map. its basic but then again if you dont know it well you could end up with a negative score.and i think it would be a good way to introduce new players to such ideas like MAP CONTROL, and fast lines thru themap.

We have posted the final call for players and released a couple of promotional videos. You could help spread the word by digging: http://digg.com/linux_unix/The_first_Freedomware_Gaming_Festival_warming_up_videos_available Smiley

Anyone knows where can I get a high resolution image of the OpenArena logo for T-Shirts?

Now that The Tux Project is onboard we will have a web shop for this gamefest. http://www.nuxified.org/blog/tux_project_gets_behind_the_freedomware_gamefest_2007

This means it's quite likely winners in the gamefest will get a free shirt, at the least. Smiley

Thanks

Everyone who signed up for OpenArena please come and voice yourself on a topic regarding the structure according to which we will play OpenArena (and Nexuiz, since it's similar in type): http://www.nuxified.org/topic/organizing_the_nexuiz_components_of_the_gamefest

Basically, the least you are asked to do is specify which modes you like to play and whether you like team based or not. If you'd like to give us more suggestions regarding the overall guidelines for OpenArena (and Nexuiz), that'd be appreciated. Please stay tuned, we're getting near. Smiley

In order to move up the participation of the OpenArena community in the upcoming Freedomware Gamefest 2007 we are looking for two or more volunteers:

A championing player to spread the word about the OpenArena Tournaments in the Gamefest through in-game messages

Basically, if you are a really good OpenArena player, rocking the world down there in those bloody virtual arenas, as you win your games you should post a quick message to other players that if they want to test their skills as part of a OpenArena tournament in a "multi-tournament" game festival, they can check out freedomware-gamefest.com.

Someone to write a brief article about why you love OpenArena

Why do you play OpenArena? What keeps you coming back in game? How does it feel? Why do you think others should play Nexuiz? Write a brief article answering these questions and praising Nexuiz as a game you love playing.

And then post this article to this topic: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/calling_for_brief_articles_on_why_do_you_love_that_game

If we get multiple submissions we can have the community vote on the best ones to publish. If they're all good for publishing we will publish them all. Wink

Also don't forget to post your opinions in the thread about organizing the OpenArena tournament: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/organizing_the_nexuiz_components_of_the_gamefest

If you didn't sign up yet, but would like to participate in the tournament do it here and specify Nexuiz as your fav game: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/sign_up_here_for_the_tourney

The efforts we are undergoing are a prelude to a last major promotional campaign before the tournaments start. Not too much time left!

our V team has registered for the ctf tournament, are there any other teams in it?

also, we have about 15 members O.o, so we could probably make two teams to represent V(given that not all show up)

Sounds great Gerbil! This is your registration post, right? http://www.nuxified.org/topic/clan_registrations#comment-10987

We don't have any full OpenArena clans like you yet, but there seem to be enough other players interested in an OpenArena team tournament for us to make a few more teams in addition to the two of yours. Smiley

Hopefully this weekend or so. As soon as everyone confirms and we form qualification groups.

In fact, we already have enough players to form first qualification groups and do first matches with them. Smiley

Is anyone available this friday through sunday?

About servers, we'll use some of our own in USA and for EU one of the Rainbow servers, thanks to Wizard. Smiley

Yeah I know it's the 1on1 and 3on3 but somewhere in that post (can't remember where) it said something about LMS, so I thought I'd be on the safe side of life Smiley

There are currently two 1on1 servers for the freedomware tournament up and running, they are configured with max_players 2 and should contain nothing but default settings.
#1 runs aggressor and #2 runs dm4ish, both does allow for callvotes at the moment.
Try them out as you wish, it's 15 minutes timelimit and no fraglimit set. There will be 3on3 CTF servers available shortly.
