It looks like Dave3D is currently using a lot of FreeDoom MIDIs.  I'd like to contribute some original MIDIs.  I have a few questions:  How many total tracks are you aiming to have in the final release?  Also, how closely, if at all, should I be trying to emulate the style of Duke3D's music?

Also, I have some sound effects I've created and would like to contribute to either Dave3D or OpenQuartz+.  I have a feeling my current sounds fit OQ+ more in style, but I'm planning to make more, hopefully for both projects.  Rather than start a separate topic, what are the current sound needs and stylistic specifications for both Dave3D and OQ+?

Here are three short midis I've written for Dave3d.  Let me know if you can use them.  If so I can make more.

Here are some more MIDIs:

http://www.jeshimoth.com/jutegyte/dave3d05.mid

http://www.jeshimoth.com/jutegyte/dave3d06.mid

The Atomic Edition of Duke3D has 42 tracks.  Will Dave3D need the same number/more/less?

Even more.  I'm assuming you'll need all 42 MIDIs replaced for compatibility purposes.  If I continue to be able to work at my current rate (three tracks every two days) then Dave3D should have enough tracks for a complete soundtrack in less than two weeks.

Duke3D had mostly boring uninspiring music (that isn't grabbag or stalker), so I don't think making an equivelant of the numerous MIDIs is too big of a task, then again I hardly compose midi anymore so i've forgotten the difficulty (I only track modules now Sad )

I will try to check out these midis very shortly, i'm feeling guilty lately when I have little time for this board

I agree that a lot of Duke3D's music is kind of unmemorable.  I'm not really trying too hard to emulate it, though I have written some boneheaded metal riffs for some of these, and I'm trying to keep the Duke3D guitar/bass/synth/drums instrumentation.  And you're right that it isn't too large a task - MIDIs are pretty easy to handle.  Writing one of these is kind of a fun break from studying, etc.

A few of those could almost pass for unreleased doom songs, number 8 and 2 in particular, with 5 being my favorite I think. I don't think they're very "duke-ish" but they seem pretty decent nonetheless.

Yeah, 8 really ended up being Doom-ish.  On a similar note, I hope it's okay with everyone if I choose not to emulate that awful Mission Impossible "Jimmy Hart version" MIDI from the expansion pack.

okay i'm listening to them and suggesting replacements of the song names, even though they don't sound alike (i'm not really reviewing the original duke songs for these choices actually, these are just suggested):

dave3d01 - watrwld1
dave3d02 - names
dave3d03 - urban
dave3d04 - streets
dave3d05 - dethtoll
dave3d06 - pizzed
dave3d07 - gotham
dave3d08 - alienz
dave3d09 - 233c
dave3d10 - gloomy
dave3d11 - snake1
dave3d12 - thecall
dave3d13 - gutwrnch
dave3d14 - ahgeez
dave3d15 - intents
dave3d16 - stalag
dave3d17 - storm
dave3d18 - inhiding
dave3d19 - stalker
dave3d20 - fatcmdr
dave3d21 - robocrep

These midis blow away my own grabbag replacement Tongue

Glad you like them.  Those replacements seem fine to me.  By the way, are you planning on replacing the full 4 episodes?  Here are three more:

The fourth episode i'm not sure - right now the con has 2 episodes and some 'deathmatch' episode or so.

Have you considered asking for mapping contributions (or anything else) on the 3d Realms message board at some point?  I would think that there would be some interest.

I did and there was no interest. They seem to be into their own thing like duke3d hrp dependent projects and jokey stuff and zombie stuff.
