howya,

i'm getting into modelling on blender and i'm wondering how many polygons to put in a openarena model. what's preferable, low poly models that will help openarena run on older machines or high poly models that show what oa is capable of? is there a consensus of opinion on this or does anything go?

could i get some recomended polycounts for either scenario?

thanks.

Nothing more than 1024 vertices on a portion or the engine will freak out and crash. OA's player models are generally around the 2000-2600 triangle poly range, with LOD meshes reducing that to around 1300 and 800.

Skin textures at the moment are 512x512, though the engine can support up to the max the video card can (like 2048x2048 on earlier radeons and geforces)

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

i hadn't realised that the models where made of seperate parts (complete beginner at this). i've done a bit of reading and learned that there are three parts, head, torso/arms and legs. i should have enough info now to have a go at making something.

thanks for your help.
