I just found out that there's an open sourced replacement for the quake 3 user interface that greatly enchances the usability of the game menus and allows to have a better modelviewing and selecting, and also allows tweaking more options for the skirmish and hosting games wihout breaking compatibility.

The developer released it for the public domain and I was thinking that it could be a great adition for openarena if it was integrated in the project.. what do you think?

While it is open source, it's license is actually conflictive since the Q3 game code that was released at the time only allowed it to be only for strict Quake3 modding only. :/

I though it was public domain, since he says that some time ago it was " to be seen as one mod sharing code with another mod, without opening up public access to that source code."
But as the source code was released later, the "original discussion" end up being only "left it here for reference".

However, should I contact with hypothermia asking him?
