Bug: fullscreen freezes the game (and sometimes my PC)

Hello,
when I run OpenArena on my PC in window mode it seems to work fine but, If switch to fullscreen, I get a lot of problems. The game initially freezes (I can't move from the start menu) and the image keeps refreshing itself until it turns all to black. If I click Alt+F4 early enough I can close the program easily, otherwise I have to forcibly exit the session to be able to use my PC again. Also the problems repeat themselves if I try to start the game again (and the settings remained the same). My OS is Ubuntu 16.04.

Did you download the game from www.openarena.ws, or from a Linux repository?
If it's the second case, then just try manually downloading the game from official OA site, extract it from the zip and run it.
