I moved the quake3arena files to the openarena folder and am using it as a mod, and it works perfectly, but it spams the chat area with error messages. How do I make it only notify me if something has really gone wrong?

removing the q3a files should work like a charm.

To be blunt:  we do not support warez.

Except I have a legal install of quake3, but for some reason, ubuntu doesn't want to run quake3, so I decided to just drag the q3 files to the openarena mods folder.
Furthermore, the plain openarena sometimes gives off warnings about missing files, and I'd like to suppress those as well.

that's just rude. loads of people have copies of quake3 arena and there is nothing illegal about what Pichu0102 tried to do.

Not necessarily, at the time of posting dmn_clown did not know it was a ligit copy, and possibly away to get around Quake 3's copy protection.

And so not to support Warez(if that was happening) he had to state it.

I still wouldn't recommend using OpenArena to run as quake3. As there is possibly some licensing problems. And so dmn_clown still wont help you get it fully running.

I would recommend, you remove the quake 3 files from OpenArena, go to the Ubuntu forums and ask for help it's garaunted someone else would have had this problem and it will most likely get solved there.

he didn't know what the situation was and he didn't ask. he just leapt to a conclusion and basically accused someone of software piracy. i still think that's rude.

A topic like this on another forum(even before answered) would have been a quick lock and possibly a ban. I've seen it many a time...
Before even stating anything else. Legal or not. It would have been locked.

And to be fair thats just how dmn_clown does it. Rather than just wondering around the subject he states it clear and gets it over and done with. And that post was one of his nicer ones too. Wink

Which in my opinion is better as you know where you stand on the situation.

Remembering ofcourse this is the internet and people can tell you all sorts, how are you going to know?

On the contrary, if you read the license that you agree to by using iD's artwork + maps you would realize that copying them over and playing as a mod in our game breaks that license agreement.

Now if you want to play your LEGAL copy of q3a on a modern distribution and run across that stupid glibc error on install try the --keep flag of the install script.  Or if you want a modern engine use the ioq3 engine.  But do not ask us to support you in a way that opens the door for every software thief on the net to steal iD's game.
