Hello,

I am trying to make a new player model with blender, inspired by the GNU character idea on the wiki.
Even though this is not the very first time I mess with blender, I am certainly not an expert modeler and this is the first model I make for quake.

Here's what I got so far... Not rigged, no UV coordinates for now, I'd like to have opinions on the model.
Some parts are a little raw, and I'm not too happy with how the head is connected to the body, though I don't know how to make it better. The polycount may be a little high too (about 1500 faces). And maybe it would need some more details, like accessories...

I'm listening to your advice Smiley

ooh. I like it! If this gets into the release, it'll probably be my new favorite!

Thanks Smiley
I hope it will, but it's still a little early to say. I'll try my best!

Your arms are tubular and the pose is very bad (no one models arms with hands going front like that because it will bring the worst deformation ever)

He is lacking a pelvis, so any running will cause him to deform horribly at the torso and crotch area

You not need worry about face count, it's the TRIANGLE count you should worry about

Try studying the Gargoyle model for some cleaner modeling reference Tongue

Its got potential, I like it, once you work out the kinks like what leileilol said, then slap some textures on it, it should be pretty sweet, can't wait.

yay! I'll really like a gnu model!

It maybe looks a bit too human, however.
I like the lower head of the tauren
Maybe this gives some idea about what I mean?

I don't mean the face itself but the possition of the head and the stronger back of the body.

lol. no, sorry, I didn't make it. I just found that image by google and post it here hoping it helps.
I have no 3D skills. I would have made some modelling for OA if I had

EDIT: I found the original thread, it is really awesome http://206.145.80.239/zbc/showthread.php?t=38192
It seems it was made with Zbrush

Really nice Olaf! Ferk, your example is a good idea, maybe Olaf can merge something of it in his model.

If you need help Olaf, please contact me.

It would seem Olaf is inactive for more than 3 years, and this topic also. Anything could have happened to him. It's a shame a potential model got to waste. I don't think we'll be seeing any of him, considering he has not managed to log in to the forum in the past three years.

Costs nothing to try, I just sent him an IM to say hi ! Grin
The "Last Active:" date is the date of the latest post, but not of the latest time someone logged in, even if it probably makes no difference in that case Wink

Nope, Cacatoes, I've got a SMF forum as well, thereby I know that the last activity correctly means the last logged in action's time. It's possible that it's the same with his latest post, if after he sent the post, closed the browser.  FYI, every profile has his own timestamp in the database, which doesn't have connection to the replies table. Okay I'll shut my mouth next time Tongue I really checked the date of both post and the one written there but without enough attention it seems.
