Well I've got everything setup with the new version and I can't find a server to play on!

None of them seem to be running the new version yet..which makes sense since it's 1:30am the day after release...

I tried hosting a dedicated internet server, but everything just freezes after I hit fight...

Has anyone found any servers we can use yet, or who wants to consider hosting? Smiley

I just checked the servers listed here on the site and found one...

tuxfamily has a compatible one up, and it seems a few others are starting to come around as well. pretty much just have to look for the new map names for a while till everyone converts. unfortunately i dont have a full list of the new map names atm Sad
you could also use qtracker in windows to find out what version individual servers are running. kinda SOL in linux though, as xqf doesnt have open arena support yet.

So far u can play on some unpure servers with mods running like noghost, cpma etc. Nevertheless let's  hope that the admins will upgrade their servers as fast as possible Smiley

imo openarena 0.8 should have a built-in version check in the server listing to display what version servers are running. alternatively a toggle for servers running the same version as the client, so servers not matching are hidden.

just an idea Smiley

ya that would be nice, or at least a protocol change so that only compatible servers show up in the first place.
it would also be kinda nice if someone made a decent cross platform external server browser like ASE, qtracker, or xqf that could filter by version, gametype, ping and other things, and bundle it with OA so there would be little need for the always horrible internal browser.

i remember beergarden too, i used to play there all the time. it seems the old farts arena has become more or less abandoned ever since they switched to excessive, i used to play there as well.

im almost considering hosting actually... but i lack the upstream bandwidth (maxes at 55K/sec or so) to host more than maybe 8-10 players with a low rate and the default snaps setting so kinda pointless.

I don't think that one will return because that guy hates me because I foil his illegal game project and his warez site.

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

you can use xqf for openarena without any problems Smiley
just use q3 and add dpmaster.deathmask.net or whatever openarenas masterserver is

hm.... we should probably suggest to people that they keep their 0.7.1 install separate from 0.7.6 for the time being until all of the servers are upgraded. since OA saves things into the user's profile folder instead of the game itself, some potential problems could arise but minor compared to not being able to play on a lot of servers due to the slow propagation of updates.

well once you lot sort this out can a nice n simple guide be published thats easily accessable. I know admins that don't visit the forum often, their time is limited to go through all the small print posted previously and track back for missed stuff

I hope the airlogic servers update soon, I get the best ping there. Anyone know if the beergarden server is ever coming back? I read somewhere they couldn't afford to run the server anymore or something...

The cat-man-du.com servers (CTF & TDM) have been running 0.7.6 since last Thursday, and some others are showing up on the master list:

@nman64, I think there's a problem with the cat-man-du servers, the CTF server is one I use frequently but the last week or so it always seems empty.  I tried just now to connect and I got a "Client_Unknown_to_Auth" error message (that's with the 0.7.6 Linux client).

Another thing: using the XQF server browser, the cat-man-du servers have "ioQ3 1.34-rc4 linux-i386 Dec 23 2007" in the version string, whereas other servers have a verion string containing "1.35" such as [JACK]CTF which has "ioq3+oa 1.35_SVN1288M win_mingw-x86 Apr 11 2008" and works OK for me.
