Did thunder hit my head?

« on: January 08, 2009, 10:03:23 AM »

Anyone knows some program (or game Cheesy) where i can watch demos of q3a-based games (or just open arena)?

The thing is that when i try watch demos in OA it says "no demos found" and in Urban terror (it has q3a engine too) it says "can't open nameofdemo". Its same when i record or somebody else, I never can open demo. I was told about Seismovision but for that i have to pay......

Sorry if i posted in wrong section...

Seismovision is just a program which launches the game anyway.

You need to create a folder called demos in baseoa. Put the demo files in there then goto the menu options for demos. If you have been recording while using a mod then the demo may not show until you load the mod.

I have folder named demos in baseoa (both baseoa, in game folder and in .openarena in home directory). It still says no demos found.  And what demos options? in q3config.cfg there are only 2 options about demos: autorecorddemo and timedemoLog. I use no mods.

EDIT: and all folders have some demos inside of them. And there are demos in baseoa/pak6-misc.pk3

I meant the options in game. I never use the console to load demos. If I record a demo then dont see it listed then it usually in a mod folder. When I put the demo in the base location and try to run it then I usually only get 2 issues...

1) I dont have a map. The demo trys to load and the big clue is there is no levelshot shown at load time

2) Demo was recorded on a different protocol. I cant remember what the error message is there.

You could consider trying out defrag for the menu options alone. Another thing which I use it for is checking out maps in the 'tricks mode'. It lists all the maps you have along with thumbnails.

Do you have any demo files you can include in a post for someone to check out?

It can happen for old demos to be playable with newer OA versions, but this is not always the case. This is due to maps which change but have the same name.
Have a look at this page at the "Playing a demo" section: (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Manual/Demos
