Why CTF?? It's dm/tdm no matter how I look at it.

The idea of carrying in/out the flag and the possibility to be killed with just one shot from the only weapon every enemy have at the respawn aren't linked between each other imho.

I agree. The odds you'll get shot between bases are very high. There's almost no point going for the flag.

But even if you are killed on the way back with the flag a teammate can pick up the flag and go on. It is hard but that is what makes it fun.

Taking the flag also gathers attention and that gives more targets to shoot at.

Instagib CTF is definitely more teamwork since the probability of being killed is higher. I don't see any problem with it. I wouldn't understand instafreeze CTF, though.

Also, Insta CTF is very popular in other games (see UT series), and it's probably even harder in there since you cannot move as fast as in Q3. As others said Insta CTF can be quite tactical (requiring very different style of positioning of team members) compared to all weapons, hence public iCTF is imo only good for some aim practise, not for enjoying good CTF (especially if the player limit is high, i.e. >10). An iCTF clan match in OA could be quite fun though, but haven't ever tried that. At least it is fun in UT2k3 Cheesy

This is masochism. The odds are low even on normal ctf.

It's great.  In theory. Honestly, every day I see a competition "Who rails better" or simply said, tdm. The flag is unnecessary.

Instagib CTF is good to develop your aim and work as a team. It makes playing CTF much more challenging especially when you play CTF on a regular basis. I enjoy playing it and trying to score with the flag w/o getting killed in a crowded server. It takes a great deal of skill, awarness, teamwork and some luck to be successful at it. So I would look at this game mode as one level up from CTF. Some people want more challenging ways to play CTF instead of just fragging ppl all day (which can become monotonous & boring)

No! Don't take away all the colorful palette from TDM with item picking and weapon balance, leaving it with only rail.
In CTF at least it's not so boring because there's a flag.
Well, iCTF is a good aim practice. It's easier to train your aim when people are forced to attack, it turns mindless unlike it could be in TDM Cheesy
No, sometimes it can be interesting in aspects of teamwork, when you really got bored of everything else.
Insta servers are so popular because people like  RG as instant-hit weapon. How the hell does PG or RL work, those weapons are so strange and futuristic... RG is so close to sniper rifle Cheesy

If map is bad, then on insta it's absolutely unplayable. oa_ctf2 would be a good example.

Why? IMHO it's the noobs, who don't understand the non-hitscan weapons (as MIOW said); campers, who love to get their rail at the beginning, with no need to care about ammo; sad ppl who have nowhere else to play (like me) and the good players that use the rest as moving targets for target practice. This way, everyone is there.
Where's the art of choosing the appropriate weapon for each encounter? The thinking of "how much has that sucker left in him?"? The fun of air rockets, HUMILIATION of the gauntlet, even the plasma spam?
End of the rant.

I agree!  THD clan used to host insta servers with rail jumps and faster movement.  That was f*ing hard but also totally fun.

I have to agree. It pisses me off when all servers are empty, but there are 20 ppl playing insta.  Insta is fun for about half a match..........

Only it's possible that your config is resetted, not sure why. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.
