Oasago is a popular map, but I've heard people complain about how they get low fps when playing it. I opened it up in Zeroradiant and it had 2352 brushes, which did seem kind of high for a map of this size. I decided to see how much I could reduce that by. I was pretty brutal and managed to get it down to 104 brushes while still keeping the layout the same. It's a bit plain now, but it should get better fps.

EDIT - Second version of map.
Oasago_simple_0002.pk3

The .map file is in the pk3.

Cool, although it would be better to leave windows and not change bridge so much at least.

My results, standing on the bridge and looking in various directions:

oasago2: 52 - 70 fps
oasago_simple:  72 - 90 fps

So that's about 33% more fps -- quite good but not as much as I expected, given the drastic reduction in brushes.

And the bridge is definitely higher than before.

MIOW - yeah, maybe I went a bit too far by taking the windows out. I'll put them back in.

andrewj - the results were ok, but not quite as good as I'd expected. I'll fix the bridge.

Original wall with windows back in. Original bridge back in. Still only 118 brushes. Smiley
Download link in first post.

Any other suggestions?

Okay so i tested both versions:

Original oasago2: I've always gotten 110-125 depending on spots on the map.

oasago_simple: 120-125fps

oasago_simple_002: same as oasago_simple.

Seems like an improvement but ive always gotten good fps. Tongue

(Also i have com_maxfps 125 set.)

I dont know if you notified but a_clown and joki made a version of oasago where is removed all the useless things which only put down the fps, the look is the same, but you will get better fps and as you know in oasago orginal the fps is very bad if you look the other maps. I didnt test this map before but its a bit modified in gameplay or not?

DaywalkeR - I hadn't noticed that, thanks for pointing that out. I'll leave this alone now.

It's not been a total waste of time. I've learned a bit about Gtkradiant in the process.

I didnt want to make you stop the project, I just wanted to bring in that map cause It seemed to be something similar. But if its the same there will be no sense for you to finish it. I hope you will keep on mapping your own maps for openarena Smiley
