What are the most played OA maps online here of this year? I sort of want to survey everyone here.

Edit: ps37ctf is also quite popular for CTF. In FFA, I see oa_rpg3dm2 a fair bit. And I think I see oa_dm3, am_galmevish and aggressor more frequently as well.
It probably depends on which servers I play on though.

I would like to add some more to the list: pul1ctf, oa_ctf4ish (well it was still popular in spring). And for insta exclusively: oa_ctf2, oa_bases7.

I can only say for CTF maps:

Commonly played: oasago2, oa_ctf4ish, ps37ctf, oa_bases7, pul1ctf, oa_ctf2(old)

Sometimes played: oa_bases3 and 5, hydronex, ctf_gate1, czest2ctf, czest3ctf, delta

Rarely played: ctf_inyard, oa_spirit, ctf_compromise, cbctf1, islandctf

This is approximative Wink I wouldn't be surprised if for instance ctf_inyard and oa_spirit are played more often than czest2/3ctf and delta.

Maybe these popularity stats could be automatized for some next version...

The maps I played most this year are wrackdm17(instagib deathmatch) and oasago2(ctf).  I played some others more or less, but these two are the ones I played the most.

for CTF in NA there is a lot of:
oasago2
pul1ctf
ps37ctf3
ps9ctf
oa_ctf2

for duel I have only seen:
aggressor
oa_shine(maybe once or twice)

I agree it is a shame that inyard and compromise are not played. I also like oa_spirit3 too Sad

cbctf1 is downright terrible, it is massive beyond belief, there is very little health(hello crater!), AND there is only one spawn!
i dont like any oa_bases maps. Hydro is okay, it just needs more entry points to flag. Hydro matches never end 90% of the time.

OpenArena needs more competitive maps, and also add some strategical powerups to ctf games. Other maps except those two above are not playable.

I've seen callvoting nextmap indeed ... but only noobs/known campers ... lol

am_galmevish is a well done map imho ... it lacks of armors and health , true but as a paradox is balanced enough to not strictly require them . There's lots of space in both horizontal and vertical dimensions but also corners and pillars where hiding, item are well distribuited, campers don't have easy life : the only locations used to camp and spam rockets are the teleports (quick back and forth while spamming rockets ) , but it's easy to kill them while appearing on one of the gates. Railwhores have no easy life too. They can be killed by many position. And quad possession is noob proof because noobs always use the footbridge , while experts get it while strafing over the footbridge.

It's not a joke , the map is really funny and enjoyable.

I find it wierd how the most popular maps tend to have the worst sky shader of them all - the color-killing blue night sky that was a quick stand-in for rpg3dm2. Sad

That would mean i have to experiment and create new skies for oasago2, rpg3dm2, galmelvish, to find good lighting and color for the maps

Well... I didn't have any bit of faith on am_galmevish to have that level of acception, specially considering the original maps which I took the inspiration to do it. Cheesy

It seems like I have to roll-back some changes for galmevish2 then, or be condemned (?) to get stuck into the "First Installment Wins" karma. Tongue

And that sky (skies/nitesky) is awesome overall. What about doing alternate versions for that shader instead? Most of the maps using it are looking very good actually IMHO.

Almost. I want to prepare the new flare code first, then deal with the new SVN comments that'll be my last delay... at least until RC2.

it is popular, my only problem with it is the lack of health and armor. If i am not mistaken, there is only a couple 5 health pickups and none of anything else to keep you alive. Basically, if you get hurt, your stuck like that until you die Smiley. I also found that quad is basically useless because pretty much everyone is going to die in one rail anyway. The map itself is enjoyable, just needs health/armor Smiley


And, Please, ADD cg_ForceEnemyModel FTW !!! Thats the biggest lack of OA.

These are based of CTF servers since thats what i mostly play. Smiley

oasago2, ps37ctf, pul1ctf, oa_bases7, oa_ctf2: seem to be the most popular on insta servers.

I notice the North American players that play on the all weapons servers like oasago2, ps37ctf, pul1ctf, oa_ctf2 and lost of custom maps.

I added galmevish on some CTF Allrockets server, 3 CTF maps then that map in TDM. Some like it, some call a vote for next. I think it's quite entertaining for a quick game after all those long CTF matches Wink Simple still effective, I can't say much about weapons layout as I tend to play it in allrockets mode.
